BlackBerry Pearl 2 (8130) launching Wednesday on Verizon Wireless?
It appears the BlackBerry Pearl 2 (8130) along with the Samsung U470, LG VX8800, and LG VX10000 will be joining Verizon Wireless’ lineup come Wednesday morning. The carrier has posted a teaser site, in which mouse movements shine light upon dark silhouettes of four upcoming devices. Did you really expect Sprint to out beat Verizon with the BlackBerry Pearl 2? Ah, never mind. They got the Palm Centro…
Thanks, Omie!
UPDATE: We just got word from one of our Verizon ninjas, and they’ve informed us that the BlackBerry Pearl 2 release date on Verizon is in November. This leads us to believe that the images will be revealed on the teaser site in 4 days, perhaps?

I’ll just wait patiently for the Sprint Curve.

hi there, a bit off-topic but does anyone know by chance how to “steal” the music loop played in the vzw teaser presentation (http://products.vzw.com/index.aspx?id=rlp&site=next) ?
Thanks !

The “truetype” keys on the Pearl, actually feel ‘better’ to type on, than the Curve, with my large, crude fingertips,IMHO.
Other than that, I like them both.
That leaves only a question of size, desirability.

Does anyone know the name of the song played at VZW’s teaser site?

@ EW, according to the mp3 loop filename, it’s a custom made mp3 for the teaser by McCann (ad agengy) for VZW

sorry for the double post…
thought the first one didn’t go through. See what happens when you try to post from a TREO…?
I haven’t looked forward to a handset release as much as this one since…well…ever!! I was able to use one briefly that belonged to someone I know. I have wanted one ever since. (That was like a year and a half ago)

If what I initially heard still holds true, the count down on the /next site will reveal one device at a time, obviously meaning that there will be four count downs. I can’t really say too much more than that…. Oh yeah, and the fact that the Pearl WILL NOT be released in 3 or 4 days or whatever is left on that countdown. My info is credible, HoFo visitors will recognize my SN….

I could be wrong though…. it happens from time to time…

I hope you are wrong, I am loving the idea of a new BB by mid week. My 8703e is getting (got along time ago) long in the tooth.
I need a new toy…
Lets keep our fingers or BB thumbs crossed, but I am sure BG was correct and the release date will be in November.
A real shock would have been to see the Curve up on that teaser site.
Thanks again for the info.

So… is there generally a way to hack out the Verizon garbage from a BB or are you stuck with it? Also, could one buy a BB directly from RIM or somewhere else and use that on Verizon?

Anyone know if the GPS function will be locked on the 8130 as it is on the 8830, rendering a perfectly good functionality useless by the $$$-mongers at VzW?

Both Verizon and Sprint seem to have expensive plans for Blackberry’s. Maybe I’m just not used to it. T-mobile plans seem more reasonable.

I noticed that the ad on Yahoo’s homepage looks similar to Verizon’s teaser site. It has a countdown, but also says “The next phones arrive tomorrow.” I suppose it’s too much to hope that it might be a literal statement.

Just called VZW biz sales as I too saw the teaser on Yahoo. The VZW biz accounts services I use for my business accounts have NOTHING in the system, not even the first phone (the samsung) that appears on the teaser
This would be the biggest screw job by VZW if they don’t release something tomorrow.
If this is just an Intro to an Intro??? to future phones tomorrow, I may have finally been pushed to go to the dark side…hear i come AT&T (maybe)

According to the Blackberry site:
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/device-detail.jsp?navId=H0,C101,P625
the 8130 works on the Wireless network: Dual-band 800/1900 Mhz CDMA2000 1X Ev-DO networks
That is verizon right? Verizon is the only one that still uses CDMA or am I reading all of this wrong?

Will AT&T be getting the Pearl 2 this year?

You all should be looking forward to the release of these new vzw phones! Verizon did a great thing rejecting the iphone. That was verry smart (props to vzw). NO insurance, if any repairs are needed send the phone back to apple.. and when you get it back there’s a chance your info will be erased.. plus many other problems. No THANK YOU. And there’s alot of vzw attacks but they still come out on top (per reports) for being the most reliable wireless. Do your homework! And I would rather stick with a network that just doesn’t throw “the latest hype” on to their network, but rather tests the equipment first. VZW is slow with the release of phones.. but yet they’re #1!
Can you hear me now? Good.
YEAHH VZW!

You’re all kind of pathic, caring this much for a phone… It comes out when it comes out, then make your decision… Until then, go do something productive or worthwhile… Anything but spend your free time trying to figure out when this thing comes out… Sad….
