Defective Halo 3 discs in the wild?

What would a highly anticipated product launch be without a few snags in the road? It seems that Microsoft may have made a mistake or two with their limited edition Halo 3 tin packaging. The boxes which incorporate pieces of real metal into the package construction are the problem here. Apparently the discs aren’t held in place well enough. Once the disc slips out it comes into direct contact with the exposed metal surface, damaging the surface layer of the disc beyond repair. Thankfully, Microsoft has already recognized and admitted the issue, and is offering to replace the discs free of charge for anyone afflicted by such tragedy. Best get your replacement disc quickly though, as you only have until the end of December to cash in.

Yeah at gamestop they will just replace the disc in store from there overstock pile. I would be pissed if I had to send it in and wait another week or two to play a game I waited to midnight to get.

I still think part of this is crap.

That is, I’ve got a scratched disc, but it still (at least to the point I’m currently at) however, I have to send it back to MS to get a replacement, which means that, at best, I have to wait around a week or 2 to get a game that I spent an extra $10 on in a playable (or at least undamaged) format.

There should be a better program in place–we got milked an extra $10 for the better packaging and extra disc and suddenly MS is asking us to do without in order to get our “free” replacement, but the reality is that we’re losing time from the game–a lot of people pre-ordered, scheduled time off of work/school/etc. and while that may seem lame, this is a big deal to quite a few people–being forced to handle a bunch of packaging / shipping, getting to the Post Office (and that can be a real pain in arse, even if you’re not a lazy turd like me).

So, as cool as it is that MS is trying to “help”, I think they’re botching the customer experience at this point and there needs to be something better in place. The place I purchased my copy (where I will not shop at again) will not accept the return claiming it’s not their fault (like it’s mine).

Stings a little, MS. I don’t think people are asking for a $100 “store credit”, but a better solution needs to be forthcoming quickly.

Don’t worry, Tee Jay. Coldcc is either trolling or just flat out lying (or both). Master Chief doesn’t die in Halo 3. :-)
