Apple planning tablet computer?

According to Apple Insider, the answer is "yes". Apple, apparently energized by the success of the iPhone and iPod Touch, is thought to firmly pursue plans to release a full scale tablet device. Leveraging the multi-touch interface made popular by the iPhone, the company is certainly capable of releasing a revolutionary take on the tablet-PC form factor. But will it ever see the light of day? Rumors of an Apple Newton renaissance have been swirling for years, so we’re inclined to throw this in the rumor bin for now. That said, if Apple did decide to enter the Ultra Mobile PC market, we wouldn’t be the least bit upset. Integrated HSPDA, multi-touch interface, OS X….we’re drooling already. This product is apparently on track for a 2008 release, but we wouldn’t hold our breath…just yet, at least.

HA!!! i agree with Tee Jay LOL! sounds like the people at CRAPPLE are trying to squeeze the most out this “innovative” design. sound familiar MOTORAZR?? maybe they should adopt the 4-letter naming scheme as well (APPL). colors will be next as well as the v2, v3m, v3c, etc. i’ll stick with my N95 and my PMP thank you very much.
Now would be their best bet at launching themselves into the PDA/tablet pc market.

I’ve seem a lot of crappy attemps at making a tablet PC… Apple gets my vote for being most likely to pull it off…
Yea thats great Apple, maybe if you could just put an iPod touch and a phone together and kind of make it like a mini computer so I dont have to carry 600 devices with me in my pocket, that would be cool. Oh iPhone you say? Yes I have one of them and a iPod Touch too. How much more money are you going to milk me for?

Alpha, do we need to list all the Apple firsts they have in their corner…we can compare if you want.
Their designs are what sell the devices but they dont build product loyalty for just pretty products. They work well right out of the box, if you want to customize or hack then you should know to look elsewhere.

I think they could do it although they would overcharge for it at the beginning and have a $400 price cut around the 2-3 month mark that would make some people consider it and then we would go out and buy…something that has the tech for the money. **que HTC Kaiser soundtrack**

Jeff B. I can agree with you, they overprice everything for the “looking pretty” effect.
That is why I say they have a mind control on dummies. Why would you pay $1,200 for their cheapest PC (thats all they are now since their technology became obsolete) when for the same specs you can pay $400 for a PC.
