Sony delays Playstation Home

Do you hear that? It’s the sound of Second Life fans breathing a sigh of relief. Sony announced today that it was delaying the release of its Second Life-esque Playstation Home until Spring 2008, giving SL fans another couple of months before Sony starts stepping to their game. Second Life jokes aside, this is the latest in a string of problems, PR issues, and poor decisions on the part of Sony’s gaming division. Claiming the desire to perfect and further polish the service, Sony continues to shoot itself in the foot by blundering the Playstation 3 with all its might. We understand the desire to release a fully developed product to the masses, but the simple fact is that product delays look bad, and do nothing but increase skepticism and concern over Sony’s ability to compete in the global gaming marketplace. This begs the question, does the Playstation 3 have one game that makes you want to buy the PS3? You know, like Xbox had Halo? Good luck, Sony.

    As a PS3 and 360 owner, Sony does have a bad line up of games. We can only wait and see what’s to come. I do enjoy the media capabilities of my PS3 however, something the 360 is not capable of doing. Games such as Warhawk, RFOM,and R6 have mee keep turning on my PS3. I can also browse the web and stream movies directly from my PS3, so its not that bad for me. I’ll just wait and see what killer games Sony will be bringing out this Fall. Let’s all be a little patient here. It hasn’t even been a year!

    Yes its called Killzone 2 and not to mention GranTurismo 5 and quite possibly FF XIII. Some of these game developers need to step their games up (literally) and start utilizing all the PS3 has to offer, and stop porting games.

    Sheesh Sony is bungling EVERYTHING about the PS3. I enjoy mine, primarily for the media capabilities. The only game I’ve spent a significant amount of time in is NFS:Carbon.

    The game that will sell thousands and thousands of PS/3’s (at least here in USA) is the next iteration of Gran Turismo. But those folks have bungled that product line almost as badly as Sony. GT5 (or GTHD, or whatever it’s gonna be called next) >SHOULD

    I’m really having a hard time understanding what all these “media capabilities” of the PS3 you’re talking about. Outside of Blu-ray, I’m pretty sure the 360 has way more “media capabilities” than the PS3 (see media center extender). I mean just look at the cable card tuner support/integration. That’s unrivaled by anything else on the market. If Microsoft can find a way to get HD programming (not OTA crap) to Media Center desktops, it’s all over… And the DVD upscaling is much better too. I won’t even go into the video marketplace…

    I have a ps3 and 360 as well. There is a much better lineup for the 360 yes, but the 360 wasn’t any better off going into last Christmas, its 2nd christmas. Let’s not forget, the 360 has an extra year on Sony, so it damn well better have a huge library.

    When christmas ‘08 rolls around we will see what everybody thinks about this

    I love my PS3 it is great at everything you put it to, Yea sure sometimes the installs for demos take a little while and the OS updates blow but it’s a great addition to any home theater system and PS3’s everywhere boast one thing XBOX will never;
    integrated BLU-RAY and HDDVD..in the same disc slot, awesome just awesome.
