SK Telecom dumps $270M into Helio

Once again, SK Telecom has upped their investment in US MVNO carrier, Helio.

"SK Telecom’s investment is a ringing endorsement of Helio’s business strategy and long term growth potential. They’re one of the world’s most successful mobile companies and it recognizes the value of our business.

EarthLink remains an enthusiastic shareholder that will continue to contribute to Helio’s ongoing success. But given this huge investment by SKT, EarthLink and SKT are in discussions to amend their existing agreements to reflect the additional investment by SK Telecom and the future governance of Helio."

Yeah I have to agree with P this is good news. I love my Helio too, BUT there are a few problems that I know this additional capital if spent properly can fix.
    1. Need more phones ASAP!!
    2. Better training for its employees (not had a bad experience yet just know they are a little bit clueless if there is a problem)
    3. Need to get an agreement with RIM to get a helio-ized Curve like phone for those of us who like the Ocean but need that instant push e-mail fix & other 3rd party applications for productivity.
    3. Family Share Plans are just coming online but you cannot order family share online, you have to call them to do it. This cash infusion should breathe life into web orders which account for at least 70% of Helio’s new activations.

These are all the growing pains of a young & new company, but with the support of SKT, I think Helio can & will weather the storm. DEFINITELY SO NICE TO HEAR!!

I have to say I had the WORST experience with Helio. I go the Ocean and thought it was pretty good, but one horrible customer service call after another led me to really question the company. After sending my Ocean back under the “Total Happiness” guarantee, I’ve been nickeled and dimed for over a month, lost my cell number forever and am still waiting for my refund. They have a LOT to do to fix customer service before they can be a real player in the cell phone world.
