Samsung SGHi780 gets official

Remember that mystery Samsung handset we showed you a couple of days ago? Well, it looks like Samsung couldn’t keep a secret for too long, with official specs leaked by way of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group. The phone in question is the Samsung SGH-i780, a Windows Mobile 6 Professional handset that sports numerous upgrades over the lagging Blackjack that it is surely destined to replace. The phone sports a 2.55" 320 x 320 pixel touchscreen, UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi, and GPS. Other possible specs include a 3.2 megapixel camera, front facing VGA shooter, and a microSD card slot. Expect a European launch in the very near future, and hopefully a Blackjack 2 launch on AT&T before the end of the year.

    A 2.55″ touchscreen? That’s tiny!

Why are smartphone screens going smaller while regular phone screens are going bigger? My Q has a 2.5″ screen and I don’t think its big enough, let alone for a touch device.

I’m holding out for the iPhone G2 but this device is definitely worth considering. Bummer about the camera. I hope it’s 3.2 and not 2.0 megapixels.
