Thunderbird is a great mail client. I especially like the enigmail extension which provides (almost) seamless gpg encryption and signatures.

That said, I switched to outlook 2k3 for my main machine because Tbird doesn't have conduits to sync w/ a Blackberry or Windows Mobile device which is necessity for me. And to my knowledge there doesn't seem to be any work going on to achieve this. (someone feel free to correct me if I'm uninformed)

Although not important to me, many people want MS exchange support but I don't see that materializing ever unless MS gets involved w/ the development, which they won't.

What's really needed IMO, is an (GPL or) Open source Exchange replacement. and Tbird should be extended to work w/ that.

I think Firefox is pretty stable. Plus I love the fact that he has so many independently made plug-ins for it. I love it!!!

I use Thunderbird at work...so this is quite an interesting idea.

I used to be all about trying to find out what program was the best email client for my email. Until Gmail came out, I just log in through firefox or internet explorer. I don't need a program anymore.

In order to be successful with this they would need to make the e-mail client like the browser by creating a version for all mobile devices and platforms, including a java version. To be money, they would need to support Exchange push mail and support various HTTP mail types.

I find Firefox stable enough, but sure it needs continual development and features, so as long as they keep up support on all products I can't see this being a problem.

If they can produce a good client with even more addons, especially against spam/junk email, then I'm sure it could "grow up" into something which could end up on corporate machines worldwide.
