Apple announces European iPhone; no 3G, we shed tears of sadness

We hoped, we wished, we prayed, we even sacrificed small animals, yet Apple has silently told us to get lost, and crushed our dreams of a 3G iPhone. For the moment, at least. Just announced moments ago, Apple has officially layed out the launch details for the United Kingdom’s iPhone. As rumored and reported, it was O2 who clinched the deal at the last moment. The European iPhone does not differ at all from the U.S. version, and will go on sale starting November, 9th. We still love you, Apple. Just give us the little software updates we ask for.

While no 3G is a bummer, I do believe an unlimited data plan is a first for UK. If so, it *IS* a big deal and EDGE at least self-throttles the traffic.

It also includes 7,500 wifi hot spots through “The Cloud.”

Well Im actually glad that there was no 3G announcement. The USA was up in a roar about a $200 price drop. Imagine if someplace else would get a 3G iPhone before us? Dont think it will go over well. And I see that there wont be ANY changes so BG, I dont think those covers from cnn.cn are OEM ;) You know I love you BG!!!

If the Euro iPhone is the same 8GB US version that means that the 16GB version is still in the works. We will probably see a 3G 16GB version early next year.

It does make you wonder if maybe they had planned a 3G, but decided to hold off because of all the near-riots after the $200 price drop. They already had created enough bad feelings that they see it best to wait instead of add more fuel to the fire.

Probably not, but isn’t speculation what sites like this were created for. My guess is that they are still working on the battery issue with 3G.

Everyone talks about wifi. If im not mistaken the browser on the iphone and the touch is the same. And Safari on the touch is slow and thats connected to wifi. Me and my friend had a race his touch, (he was connected to my wifi) I use my motorola q9m on verizon 3g and. I beat him to the point that he gave up. Im not bashing it but can someone please explain how did that happen. My other friend connected his sprint 6800 to my wifi and he beat my q9m on 3g.

It’s not going to have unlimited data plan in europe.

It will have a certain prepaid ammount, then you start paying. Based on Anti Trust law, in europe a carrier can’t offer unlimited data ONLY with the phone of a certain manufacturer, it would be unfair competition towards other phone makers.

Not accurate that this is the first unlimite data plan in the UK. Both T-mobile offer “Unlimited” data plans. Voice + £7.50 on T-mobile £8 on Orange. Has been around for well over a year.
