BlackBerry BIS 2.4 coming today

Saturdays aren’t usually the most popular product release days, but when it comes to RIM, we suppose that anything is possible. Rumors are bubbling that the much anticipate BIS upgrade to version 2.4 will show its face sometime today, September 15th. This upgrade will bring a host of improvements, including vCard, MP3, and PDF/RTF attachment support, among many others. One of the biggest attractions is the ability to log into your BIS account from your ‘Berry without a username or password, with your device acting as de Facto identity validation. T-Mobile already allows this feature, we believe, AT&T and other carriers don’t. We’ll keep our ear to the streets and let you know if it does, in fact, go live.

Logging onto T-mo’s BIS interface, it seems that the help information windows have been updated from what I remember. Perhaps the update has been completed?

Cingular/ATT has offered BIS 2.4 for quite a while now.. since june 2006 ..

    http://www.wireless.att.com/businesscenter/solutions/email-messaging/bis-login.jsp

“IMPORTANT NOTE for customers who created an account prior to June 12, 2006: Significant improvements have been made to BlackBerry Internet Service with the introduction of BIS 2.4. Existing users who have not migrated to BIS 2.4 will be prompted with a migration option after you enter your user ID and password. Read and understand the changes before making a decision. Select “Yes” if you wish to migrate, or “No” if you wish to continue to use your existing service. After you upgrade to BlackBerry Internet Service 2.4, you will not be able to revert to the previous version.

We recommend that you upgrade to take advantage of new BIS 2.4 features including push (vs. polled) email synchronization, multiple “sent from” email addresses, individual email account icons, and support for uploading attachments.
