Verizon quietly releases the Samsung i760

If you’ve been waiting for the Samsung i760 for the better part of a year, you might be able to scam the system. Never mind. After Verizon reads this post I’m sure they’ll lock it down faster than Nicole Richie’s prison stint. Nevertheless, getting the Samsung i760 more than a week before its official September 24th drop date isn’t much to complain about. Customers are reporting that this super slick Windows Mobile 6 handset is now available by way of Verizon’s customer service and Business to Business channels. Prospective customers beware: pricing is pretty savage. The i760 on a 2 year contract will run you $399 plus a $50 MIR and a 1 year contract will nab you one for $459.99 plus $50 MIR. Not exactly chump change. That said, if you need the best and brightest on Verizon, this is, hands down, your best bet. Run, don’t walk, to your phone and call those CS reps. Give them this SKU for the device, SCHi760ZKV, and tell ‘em BGR sent ya’. Just be prepared for Samsung’s usual horrible keyboards that don’t register fast keypresses…They’ll never learn! But wait, what about accessories? Yeah, we got you covered. The available accessories along with the corresponding SKUs are after the jump!

Thanks, Omie!

SAMi760VPC – Vehicle Power Charger ($29.99)
SAMi760HOL – Holster/Belt Clip ($19.99)
SAMi760DTC – Desk Top Cradle ($39.99)
SAMi760BAT – Regular Battery ($39.99)
SAMi760BATX – Extended Battery ($59.99)
SAMi760TVL – Travel Charger ($29.99)

called biz CS vzw today. Still gave me the ” I can’t sell that phone right now” line. Didn’t have a release date. Its looking more and more like they are going to hold off and release all of the new pda phones at the same time, which in my opinion, is a mistake.

Still no phone. Interesting that Samsung took its i760 page down a few days ago. I wonder if anyone really knows anything or do people just make stuff up (like release dates). Let me try: I heard Scotty wasn’t really dead, just stuck in the transporter’s particle wave duality enhancer nodule in an alternative universe (the one where Spock is mean and has a goatee). Yeah that’s it.

I just called and received the standard response - “Sorry, that phone is not available at this time.” They did confirm that the website should be updated on the same day that the phone goes on sale in the stores. I thought that they might add web ordering later in order to generate more activation fees.

Maybe the i760 and the XV6800 will debut on the same day.

I just talked to a sales rep at the local VZW store and he said that they have no time table for the Samsung i760 or the VX6800. However, he did say that VZW indicated that the VX6800 had to be released before the i760. Fact or smoke??

I have been waiting for this phone for a very long time. I have stayed loyal to VZW for a very long time and my I730 since July ‘04. Just like all of you, I am itching for this amazing and beautiful phone. But I must be honest, this has now struck a nerve with me. I have heard about this phone for so long and it sounded great…………….last January. Now we’re 9 months ahead and still no phone. By the time this phone goes on the shelves, it’ll be old. Im really starting to get aggravated with VZW and considering dropping them as my carrier after 12 years of service. To have the knowledge of this phone almost a year ago and then learn the reasons why its delay in release makes me question VZW’s integrity. To know that because of some contractual, non competition agreement with Moto, the I760 could not be released in august, just makes me mad. I am the customer here in need of a new phone after 3 1/2 years and I cant get that phone cause of business politics? I hope you’re reading this VZW. I am one pissed off customer.

Verizon retail stores already have some merchandising material for them, which almost assuredly means that it will be released within two weeks(10/2 or 10/9).
I am also 100% positive that the i760 will be released before the XV6800. It will be at least early Nov before the XV6800 is available.

Back in June a Verizon business account rep told me the 5800 was being “retrofitted” to run WM6, and they were planning to release it in July. Obviously that timeframe has come and gone. I guess it remains to be seen if they will ever release this phone. It is almost a year ago that rumors and pics of this phone were hitting the web. Pretty pathetic. I just hope we aren’t dying of old age waiting for this phone, only to be disappointed with its performance. I think a large-scale mass exodus from Verizon would be the best way to let them know we are fed up with having the proverbial “carrot” dangled in front of our noses. I know this is unrealistic, but it would be funny if it really happened.

I got a look at both the i760 and the vx6800 this morning at my local store (for those in DC: the L Street location). They were non-working models, but still, I got to handle them, try out the action, etc. The salespeople said the phones were dropped off last night and that the stores would start selling them within a week. I have to say that I preferred the feel of the i760; I had a vx6700 and ended up getting rid of it because it didn’t have a tactile number pad. I never realized how much I dialed (even speed-dialed) by feel. Also, the keyboard on the i760 seemed more tactile, with the keys being more button-style (like the blackberries) rather than pad-style (like the Motorola Q 9m or the vx6700). I’m up for renewing my Verizon account in a week and I’m definitely going to try out the i760. I’ll let you all know how it goes.

It looks like the facts might be a little off. The i760 still has no official date for release. I tried everything. There is a Samsung releasing on the 5th of Oct., the u700. I am hoping for a near term release.

Think you can “drop” your i730 and get it covered on insurance and replaced with the i760? =) Maybe…since the i730 hasn’t been listed on their site in forever….

    bummer =(

i hate that new every 2 crap. i should be able to extend my plan another 2 years and get the same benefits of a new contract. i’ll have to wait a year unless i want to pay too much for the phone.

anyway. went to the verizon store today and one lady there said maybe 4 weeks for the i760 to come out.

yea saw that. though the one new phone in that lineup is really cool for a non-pda phone.

if the i760 is smaller/thinner (which i think it is) plus has decent battery life then i’ll get it else i may just go with some of these basic phones verizon has and make sure it plays mp3s.

i just wish there was a small phone that had wifi in it. i dont even need the data connection…i took a walk down the street where i work (financial district nyc) and my phone flipped out finding about a million networks. so if verizon doesn’t bring the goods here with the i760…i’m off to find something else.

anyone?? battery life on this thing??

Hey, Samsung has put up the i760 page of its website again. Recall that page surfaced a month or so ago, lasted for a couple of weeks and then was taken down. It’s up and running again. Maybe that means something….maybe we can get Scotty back after all.

Confirmation on Oct. 19th Release. I just received a call back from Mike Lanman’s (VP & CMO) administrative assistant at Verizon Wireless. The official launch date will be the 19th. On-line and tele-sales can be placed at that time but in-store sales are scheduled to start on Fri, Nov. 2nd.
