Verizon quietly releases the Samsung i760
If you’ve been waiting for the Samsung i760 for the better part of a year, you might be able to scam the system. Never mind. After Verizon reads this post I’m sure they’ll lock it down faster than Nicole Richie’s prison stint. Nevertheless, getting the Samsung i760 more than a week before its official September 24th drop date isn’t much to complain about. Customers are reporting that this super slick Windows Mobile 6 handset is now available by way of Verizon’s customer service and Business to Business channels. Prospective customers beware: pricing is pretty savage. The i760 on a 2 year contract will run you $399 plus a $50 MIR and a 1 year contract will nab you one for $459.99 plus $50 MIR. Not exactly chump change. That said, if you need the best and brightest on Verizon, this is, hands down, your best bet. Run, don’t walk, to your phone and call those CS reps. Give them this SKU for the device, SCHi760ZKV, and tell ‘em BGR sent ya’. Just be prepared for Samsung’s usual horrible keyboards that don’t register fast keypresses…They’ll never learn! But wait, what about accessories? Yeah, we got you covered. The available accessories along with the corresponding SKUs are after the jump!
Thanks, Omie!

SAMi760HOL – Holster/Belt Clip ($19.99)

$400 for a phone that looks like it was drawn up in 1989 “for the future”? I’ll save my cash. Wait, I don’t have Verizon so I’m saving cash already!

Actually, several people have reported getting the Verizon CSR’s to honor the $100 online discount you usually get from the website dropping the price to $299 with a 2/yr contract plus the $50 rebate that comes in the box . . . bringing the potential price to a much more attractive $249.

BGR has been pretty accurate with regard to release dates. I hope he’s right about the Utstarcom 5800 (Libra/HTC s720) because this phone isn’t even on my radar!

on phone with them (CS) now, I gave them the sku & item not in the warehouse yet however they were able to pull it up via sku. The stores don’t have the phones yet…. apparently its an “inventory problem aka - the guy says it’s offical release date is 9/24 which tells me that’s a week and a few days for the stores to get the phone. I guess we can call this a “true” release date given when I called last month, they didn’t even know about the phones (wink)

This is one loser phone if I ever saw one…uuuuggggly…total POS. I cannot believe Samsung would put out something like this with all the sleek bberries out there, and HTC’s great mogul phone, and the iPhone, and…. Woww! Verizon is pathetic. I am a Verizon customer and their inability to bring in any decent devices to market caused me to also get a Blackberry curve at AT&T.

Ok, I got to say this…I just saw a story that Samsung just introduced the SGH-F700 phone with Vodaphone in Europe and it is one gorgeous piece of hardware. Then you look at this POS, pathetic excuse of a phone that Verizon introduced and you think to yourself: what is wrong here? U.S. is the largest single wireless market in the world and we cannot get a decent phone here…we are so behind Europe, Japan and the rest of the world…it is embarassing. My explanation is that there is little competition among the carriers here and each has major flaws (so pick you poison so to speak), the contract thing is a brilliant way to lock down consumers and milk them, splitting the market between CDMA and GSM dilutes this huge market, and finally I blame the customers who just take it. The deserve what they get then. And what they get is the Samsung i760. So, here we are almost year end in 2007 and Verizon drops this…thing…as their latest and greatest PDA phone. WTF!!! #@$!:?$%#>

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder…I prefer it to the 6800 (by a long shot) and the front keypad is the deal maker for me (I’ll still be able to send one handed texts and e-mails…try that on an iPhone or 6800 :)) but I guess we’ll have to wait and see how crippled each of the phones are by VZW

I have been calling and trying to order the i760 from B2B for the past few days. Today the rep told me that there was an email that when out to them that said that they are not to sell anymore of this phone. Consider yourself lucky if you got one…. the rest of us will have to wait…. Does anyone know of a for sure release date? The Verizon store that I used to work at heard that the date might get pushed back to Janruary? A rep told me yesterday that it should be out within 2 weeks…

Called Customer Service at 6pm PST on 9-18-07 and gave them the sku number. The CS rep that I spoke with did not have that sku in their system. This was the personal not B2B customer service group that I called.

I just tried to order by SKU and customer service eventually pulled the phone up but could not sell it. She said it “was not available yet” and could not give me the release date. While it doesn’t look great, I think that most smartphones are a little on the ugly side (of course I also like the Scion xB which is just a box :). I had tried to order a Helio Ocean, only to find out that the phone won’t even do voice commands or sync with a local version of MS Outlook (no Exchange).
