Pantech Duo says, “nice to meet you”

There are a couple things not confirmed ever since we broke the Pantech C810 Duo story. For starters, we knew it would have 3G but what kind of 3G? Well friends, it turned out to be HSDPA. Yeah! AT&T has nabbed the Pantech Duo as a "lifetime exclusive", and it will sport a 1.3 megapixel camera. The rest of the usual specs we were aware of —  Windows Mobile 6 Standard — unique dual sliding form-factor, and a $249.99 price point with 2 year agreement. The launch date for the Duo is supposed to be "late September", so you better hurry on down to your AT&T store when the time comes. We got’s a feeling these won’t stay stocked for long…Full product shot after the jump!

Thanks, Jay L!

The graphic says $249, J says $199, and when it was first introduced briefly on Amazon it was $179… depending on the real price and how this baby feels in my hand when it’s released, I may be switching to AT&T for this.

AT & T is going to offer a $100 rebate when the phone comes out in the next few weeks, bringing the price down to $150.

Anymore updates on when this PantechDuo will be shipping? Also, do we know if it will have 802.11b/g? Anyone have knowledge on this phone? Thinking I”ll either go the Tilt or PantechDuo or Q9H route… thoughts?

I just bought this phone from an AT&T retail location on Oct 25th. The phone came out THAT MORNING, not late September.

Likewise, the specs are impressive; save connection to the Blackberry Enterprise server, this phone has it all- all toys and all functional applications; not-to-mention its fully expandable and I have a 8GB microSD on the way. This phone has everything the iPhone has (capacity, smaller size, more app’s, better data speeds) save the nifty touchscreen (I view this as a PLUS) and maneuverability.

Tonight, I lost my Sprint 2 year old Samsung phone and needed a replacement. My friend suggested I browse an AT&T store. So I did. I was about to buy a Sony and switch to AT&T and the clerk was messing (in awe) with the Duo when I went to pay at the counter, so he showed it to me and I was INSTANTLY hooked! $150 after rebate. I am so excited to have this phone, as well as switch carriers. I heard good things all night about both.

No, both keypads cannot come out at the same time. I’ve got my new Duo (bought yesterday) sitting on my desk here, and it’s pretty amazing for the price. The plastic construction feels really cheap compared to the Razr I had for years, but that thing’s a basic device housed in aircraft aluminum, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at that.

WM6 us responsive and has run some of the WM5 apps I tried to put on it, though not Opera to my dismay. As soon as that gets going, I’ll be happy happy =)

The flat keyboard is a little hard to get used to after having messed with the rounded-key style of RIM’s Blackberries and Pantech’s Ocean (Helio exclusive)… but it’s workable once you learn to deal with it.

The included IM app is strange — there’s a Google Talk section in the contacts, among other protocols, but only AIM, WLM, and Y!M are actually supported as far as I can tell. Luckily, IM+ works fine.

$250 for the device, less a $100 rebate in promotional debit card form, and I get a 15% discount on service through my employer. Whee!

    Not bad at all!

Now if only it were more solidly built…

I’ve had this phone for 2 weeks now without any crash or resets required. wm6 is worlds ahead of wm5. My last phone was HTC 8125 and what slow machine that was!

Don’t get too caught up with the lack of gps or 1.3mp camera…you would only buy this phone if you want something small and cool.

If you’re tired of carrying that brick on your belt, then this is the phone for you. If you want a few more bells and whistles and don’t mind the size, the Tilt is pretty amazing!

I thought about the bb curve, but the lack of 3g and the wider and taller body led me to buy the duo!

anyone else having trouble with blue tooth head sets?

As soon as I get an email or text the headset stops working.

Also, Media Player doesn’t tell you the name of the track playing.

    Question,

Is it an option to change the home screen background to like a picture you took?Or one you bought?Like say how you can on Razors and other phones?
or do you have to stick with the AT&T background???

    Yep,

    Go to ’settings’ then ‘home’.

That still won’t fix the multitude of problems this model has.

I have just invested in the blackjack II and I dont love it. I have one chance to change phones and I really like the duo. now that it has been out a few months…. do you like it?
is it worth the change? I just resigned for a two year contract so I want something durable.
    lots of problems? thanks!

I’ve been quite pleased with the phone so far. I’m not a heavy text or im user so I was happy with the smaller design. It’s nice to have a phone I can keep in my pocket rather than the belt clip. Only complaint is the slider opens sometimes in my pocket, so I need to lock the phone first. Battery life is just ok, so I charage it each night.

If you didn’t like the blackjack due to the wm6 then you might want to look at the bb curve. Good luck

I just bought this phone for my mom for xmas, and I want to get her a bluetooth ear piece. Does anyone know if there is an ear piece that uses the same charger? I need to keep it simple, if she sees too many cords she will run screaming from the room on xmas morning!

Connector is propriety so it’s only for the phone.

This phone is a little thick and the QWERTY buttons are quite small. Surely there must be a better choice for your mom.

    1. I’m not sure what you think I’m asking. I just wanted to know if any of the the bluetooth head sets had the same shape charger plug. I find chargers all over for my 8125 and I can used the same charger for my phone as for my earpiece. Hell the same charger works on my gps!

    2. Are you saying she can’t use the pantech?

    superrrguy says:

THe 8125 uses a standard mini usb connector. It work for lots of things. The Duo uses a proprietary conector that only works on the Duo. I hate addign more wires. Another reason I returned it.

Maybe you mom will like it. But from my experience I don’t think the phone was tested well.

*Bluetooth cuts off if there is any notification on the phone like new email, sms, alarm, or any ding, no more Bluetooth.

*No song name in the Media Player. They have artist twice!!! Hoe can this be?

*Battery life is no good. My mom never charges her phone. You only get a day out of this thing if you’re lucky.

*Keyboard is too small. Why does your mom need a keyboard? It adds a lot of bulk and the keys are tight. I don’t think my mom could type on this.

What do you think about the AT&T 3125? This is the most underrated phone ever. Bigger question is why do want Windows Mobile? Do you plan on using Exchange or Outlook to sync?

I just ordered this phone 12-27-07 & it will be here 12-31-07. I currently have the first BlackJack & it works well. This is my second one because my first started to freeze on me so I got another one from warranty. But besides that this has been a really good phone. I wasn’t planning to get a new cell but I just happened to see this cell when I was looking for a cell for my girlfriend & I really liked this cell. I think that it is alot better than the iphone. Don’t get me wrong the iphone is a nice phone but i think that it cost too much & is really hyped up alot just like the other Apple stuff. This phone seems to have applications than the iphone. This phone seems great just minus the touch screen, which to me isn’t a great loss. I don’t like finger prints all over my screen anyway. I am the type of person that uses all the features which is more important than a touch screen. & on the iphone the touch screen is not under warranty. So if any thing else goes wrong on the iphone it is under warranty. Toooo BAD if your screen breaks or leaks. Well anyway I think the Pantech is a nice phone, nice big screen, nice features. I played with it for a little while in the AT&T store. But if anyone has one please let me know if there is anymore Pros or Cons (besides what I seen already on here) about the Pantech Duo. HaPPy HoLidaYz tOO aLL & HaPPy NeW yeAr tOO aLL……
