Lenovo goes green with solar-powered PC

While you probably won’t want to use it as your gaming PC, the soon-to-be-released ThinkCentre A61e sure leaves one tiny eco-footprint. With its 85% efficient power supply and optional solar panel, this green machine uses only as much power as three light bulbs.  Not only that, but it’s made of over 90% reusable or recycled materials.  Lenovo estimates that the reduction in power consuption would save the average user over $20/year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by the equivalent of two round-trip flights from Boston to New York.  Expect this bad boy good boy to drop sometime next month starting at $399.

Well, this is really meant for office settings which are usually well lit, not for home.

Okay so I’m totally for the idea. But saving only 20 bucks a year doesn’t cut it for me. Yeah its better than nothing but still it wouldn’t make me go and buy one.

I may be wrong, but I think the CFLs they show actually will not go far toward charging the thing. My solar powered watch says direct sunlight or incandescent light is best for charging the battery.

For you yes. But my company would save around $6000 a year. Plus making a better impact on the environment.
