AT&T Tilt drops some knowledge on us

Even though we’re rockin’ the official HTC TyTN II, confirmed carrier offerings as always good. If there was any doubt in your mind that AT&T would be picking up the TyTN II, you can safely lay those worries to rest. Just as we all thought, AT&T will be picking up the version without a front camera. Why they do this is beyond us, especially since they have launched their Video Share feature. Regardless, it still makes us tingle to see some leaked docs on the device and what exactly it will be bringing to the table. On the email side, AT&T’s Tilt will offer Xpress Mail, Microsoft Direct Push (duh!), POP3/IMAP4, BlackBerry Connect 4.0 (we’re already using this and love it), and Good Mobile Messaging (available post-launch). The AT&T Tilt will also sport Push-to-talk, GPS, and Bluetooth 2.0. Our doc says "late September launch" not October, and the lowest you’ll snag the phone for is going to be $349.99 on a 2 year agreement with compatible data plan! Full slide, pricing, and compatible data plans after the jump!

Thanks, Jay L!

A couple of questions for all of you. What is the difference in the data plans? Why do you have the Enterprise with unlimited data and unlimited messages for $59.99, but the PDA Max with the same for $79.99. And if you want to use it as a modem do you really need to pay the extra for the tethering or is there a program you can dowload?

I have the Kaiser and yes it has TouchFlo but not the cube. The TouchFlo is awsome, and with the HTC Home screen I really could care less about the cube. The Kaiser is a 400Mhz processor but it also has a 274Mhz coprocessor. This makes a HUGE difference, that added with the 256MB ROM and 128MB RAM. I have had 10 applications up and running and still had over 50MB of program memory left and was able to switch applications or go from landscape to portorate with no lag.

I wish it had video share, but I really don’t care about the front camera. Until they have two-way video calling (where two callers can see each other’s faces) on their network, what’s the point? The rear camera would work perfectly for their current Video Share setup (showing someone what you’re looking at).

I choose to believe the phone has Video Share, and it just isn’t mentioned above. If not, it could be added with a firmware update.

    @anybody who mentioned me,
I didn’t explode, I just saw the picture and hate the lighter color and the keyboard color. But it could be darker when it comes out, who knows. We’ll all see in about 2 weeks…

(in the meantime read my excerpt about my thoughts on this.)

Well…it’s ugly. It looks like an 8525 with a new jacket. I can’t believe that they made the keypad like that, the white number keys and the blue FN key, ugly. I don’t get why those idiots just didn’t pick up a Kaiser (yes it’s the same thing just looks better and has a few more features). But hey, I want one and if I don’t like this when I check it out by the end of the month then I’ll get an iPhone, Pantech C810(if it’s nice enough), or something else. Or even an unlocked Kaiser off of http://www.mobileplanet.com. (or where the cheapest price is found…anybody have suggestions?)

    Valued Customer says:

What I want to know is if the OEM Unlocked model has PTT (Push-To-Talk). This is the first time I have seen mention of it. I was leaning toward the OEM Unlocked, for the sake of having the extra camera, and software upgrades later, and overall flexibility. But PTT would be really handy, I think. Don’t know if I want to trade it. Anyone seen any mentino of PTT anywhere else (non-ATT)?

    Valued Customer says:

Also, fwiw, if one purchased the OEM unlocked, who says you have to even notify ATT of it? I have data services on my current phone for $20 unlimited data, and I can and do tether it (although ATT would frown upon doing so since I don’t have a tethering plan).

I have been through several phones in the last few years, and never notified ATT (never saw a reason to).

Please tell me that is not the final phone. It doesn’t even look like the HTC version. The lighter color body and key pad colors look aweful. I’m might lean towards a unlock version if this is what AT&T is planning on putting out.

    Crutnack says:

Question to the $20 data plan person (Valued Customer). Is your phone an AT&T phone or an unlocked phone?

I had all sorts of issues with my 2125 Smartphone when AT&T discovered I was not on the right rate plan. My data essentially stopped working. AT&T has fixed it, but essentially the data plan they had me on did something to block out smartphone access. They had to bump me to a smartphone data plan and then adjust my bill back to what I was told originally data would cost me.

It is possible that the Kaiser/unlocked will go down in price with the release of the Tilt. $550 max is quite a bit less than $800. Besides, Apple set a new standard of how low and fast you can cut a price, HA.

Well I wouldnt think ATT would strip the ROM of everything it. Coverflow and small applications should be there. IMO. But I could be wrong we will have to wait and see. We’re half way done with Sept. but I bet the September release will be 9/30/07…

    Mike says:

I’m very upset with these plans.

It’s kinda of hard for me to justify $40/month for personal/occasional surfing and emailing from my phone. I had justified it in my head by telling myself that I could occasionally use it as a modem for my laptop if I needed to vpn into work and do support.

Since my company won’t be reimbursing me,going from $40 to $70/month for tethering makes me sad.

Are there any clever work-a-rounds (blue-toothing or some other way to use it as a modem for my laptop on an occasional basis?

    Mike says:

    Why would:
PDA Enterprise – Tethering: $59.99 (unlimited data, unlimited messages),
    $74.99 (without Voice)

    be less than:
PDA Personal Max – Tethering: $69.99 (Unlimited Data; 1500 messages); $84.99
    (without Voice)

currently I have a treo 650 and the $40 data plan from ATT. There is a program for the treo that makes it work like a modem for my laptop called “PDAnet”, they may have a version for Windows mobile.

As a backup plan, anyone have a link for the full retail version of the HTC TyTN II which includes the case and US A/C plug. Looking around, most sites charge extra for the case which is included in the retail black box.
