3 million iPhones by the end of the year

It sounds crazy, but it’s certainly within the realm of possibility. UBS Research Analysts are predicting that 3 million iPhones will sell by December 31st, 2007. With 1 million already out of the gate, the firm is predicting that Apple will push 2 million units during Q4 of this year. Given the recent price cuts and general iPhone mania, we’re completely confident that this number is within Apple’s grasp. The question, however, is whether the recent release of the iPod Touch will do anything to slow down or cannibalize iPhone sales. The two products retain enough unique draw and characteristics that it shouldn’t be too much of a problem, but we’ll be pretty interested to see how the iPhone fares during the month of October. Stay tuned, folks. One final note. For anyone who thought that AT&T might be getting the short end of the stick, think again. UBS is predicting another 3.8 million new subscribers by the end of the year.

I hope 3 million is a serious goal, then we might see another price cut. Hopefully at least another $100.

they wont risk the that again with a price cut. They will release a new model before they cut the version 1 price.

I just want to see the music store update come out..

    from Apple insider, quoting UBS

“Given the compelling new features of the iPod touch, the analyst expects the player will help fuel a mix shift in demand towards the pricer iPods, hence generating additional revenues for the Cupertino-based company. Similarly, he explained, the $200 iPhone price cut will likely stimulated more demand for the handset, generating Apple additional royalty payments from AT&T that will in the long-run offset the per-unit revenue lost as a result of the cuts.

“As a result, Apple and AT&T will have more customers than previously expected sign up for cellular service, resulting in higher payments to Apple from AT&T (we estimate up to $10 per month),” Reitzes wrote. “It is important to note that Apple will immediately recognize payments from AT&T (a reflection of the iPhone installed base), while deferring revenue from the device itself.”

I can’t believe people pay $0.99 a song when you can get music for $0.19 a song at www dot gomusic dot ru There are other cheap song sites out there too, and they all work on the ipod.

Isn’t 3.8 million considerably less than what Apple had originally projected?

I think the problem is when people are required to pay expensive cancellation fees for their service and this when I believe that iPhone unlock will come in handy the most, but as long as people can get better service for a slightly higher price with AT&T they’ll keep using the service.

Apple did not publicly announce any projections. No need for them to do so, the analysts make the projections.
Most I saw put the projections at 10.1 million through the 4th quarter ‘08. RBS then adds that they project 10.7million for ‘08 and 17 million projected for ‘09.

Of course these are Wall Street analysts, they are rarely right on but its a good estimate.

If before the end of the year, they drop a new model w/ US 3G and 16GB of memory, then I might just be one of those 3 Mil.

I feel that the IPhone should have access to many carriers and that would greatly increase the sales.Apple is constantly making new versions of things so it is hard to make a decision on what is best, if they are also making something better in the next month. I think they should make sure these phones will last a great deal then worry about sales.
