Canada freaking about Google Street View

In the world of seemingly infinite accessibilty, it’s refreshing to see some fight for the continued privacy of its citizens. Canada, which maintains its PIPEDA Act (Personal Information Protection and Electronics Documents Act), is now taking a good hard look at Google’s "Street View" maps, and challenging that the pictures gathered for this view don’t meet the Act’s test of “knowledge, consent and limited collection”. This isn’t the first concern of the same tone…the U.S. is seeing similar questions being raised. Google’s argument, of course, is that the photos are being taken in plain sight, and aren’t technically a breach of your privacy. Let the battle begin…

Can you imagin the negative feed back from all the people who’s face starts showing up on this application. Really, go out into public with a sign on that says this will be online and start snapping pictures of people and see what happens.

disclaimer: i’m not responsible for you getting smacked around if you actually try doing this. :)

See this is a little overboard but if they amiled out something that said “google will be in your neighborhood from _____ to ______ to take street views of your area” then it would be a little better…gives people a chance to hide their infinite collection of porn mags in their bedrooms.

hey, i love google as much as the next guy, and i love the new street view thing.. its really awesome. But it deffinitely needs to be looked at from a homeland security standpoint more than anything else. Hell, this thing is going to be Al Queda’s best friend. Seriously. Im suprised this thing even came to fruition.
