T-Mobile’s String Of Pearls go live

Here it is, folks. The moment you’ve all been patiently waiting for. The most poorly named product launch in recent memory has finally run its course. Today, T-Mobile released three new iterations of its popular BlackBerry Pearl handset. There’s nothing too exciting here…it’s the same old SureType phone, though that push email is oh-so-tasty. The real "news" however, is that you can now sport a Pearl in Red (which is mysteriously dubbed "Sunset"), Gold, or Blue. Excited yet? Neither are we. Each of these handsets will set you back $149.99 on a two year bid, which is a tad too much for a soon-to-be outdated handset, if you ask us. That said, if you absolutely need to stand out from the rest of the Pearl-toting crowd, this is pretty much the only game in town right now. They’re available immediately from T-Mobile’s online store.

I’m a little confused on the price tag too. I would think they would set it to $99.99 with a 2yr to try and move as much old inventory out of the door before the aggressive Q4 phones start dropping. Verizon has the right idea with that lineup of $99 dollar phones and making a big advertisement around it.

yeah thats a heft price for Tmo version, i can understand it for Sprint or Verizon as they are getting them for the first time.

I wonder if “Sunset” has anything to do with Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. Moto and Apple I know if you buy a red product they donate a portion to this foundation. Hope that is not the case for the “Sunset” name.

I can only hope that the 8320 (curve) will not be gold like the pearl? BG: Any confirmation that 8320 will be available in titanium/silver on TMOBILE?

yeah that gold is really bad. can’t imagine what research study told them that gold was good.

btw, i take back the point about the red Tmo phone, Tmo had red razrs that got donations to Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. Guess Sunset it is, looks red though.
