BlackBerry 8820 now available on Amazon

Amazon is really pulling their weight this week. First they "release" the Pantech C810 with nary a peep from AT&T, and now they’ve gone ahead and made the BlackBerry 8820 available for purchase. For the three of you that don’t remember, the BlackBerry 8820 is by and large, identical to its predecessor, the 8800. GPS, BlackBerry push email, hate-it-or-love-it keyboard design, microSD storage slot, and more. There is, however, one small but significant difference: the BlackBerry 8820 sports Wi-Fi. This release makes it the first commercially available BlackBerry on American soil to sport that feature. Someone should call the Guinness Book. The phone is available for immediate purchase at $199.99, but keep in mind that the estimated ship time is 2-4 weeks, so don’t expect it show up on your porch tomorrow.

Thanks, TJHood!

A worthy wait if you have the patience. Does anyone know if they will ship on time though?

I called Amazon last week and they don’t have it - they are just taking pre-orders - hence the 2-4 weeks wait. So is this news? No, not really.

If you asked me or anyone else who has been waiting for the 8820 what the wait time might be before the it comes out, we would all say maybe a week or two - funny, Amazon said the same thing. Welcome to the crowd.

Who cares….the 8800 of which I tried 3 of them was a bad phone, sound quality sucked with intermittent static that made having a conversation impossible. Of course, the email worked fine, but who cares. RIM better get its act together in this marketplace or they will plunge.

Robert, I’ve heard many reveiws stating quite the opposite of what you have said. Maybe it is your carrier and location that aren’t working well with the device. As you said you tried 3 different ones.. now as a troubleshooting type of person if you try 3 brand new things serveral times maybe thats not the problem.

Kinda sounds like what I went through with the 8830 with vzw, since I switched to at&t and the 8800 I have been very happy, still on the 30 trial and seriously looking at the IPHONE. Although having to ship the unit off for battery replacement is totally unsat.

no upgrading threw Amazon if you are on a AT&T family plan.. I was looking to upgrade mine and my wifes phones to the curve when I noticed this little restriction. Which they would have been FREE after discounts and rebates.. anyone know some other sites with better rebates than AT&T online store without this restriction?

OT : The Motorola Q9 from AT&T is also available on Amazon for orders.

Update - well the Blackberry and Q9 both show today as unavailable till further notice. No more ordering from Amazon. Guess AT&T put presurre to wait till they release as well, since its an embarrasment on ATT’s part to slip up on new releases while Amazon gives it for ordering .

they must be doing something because now the 8525 appears at the bottom of ther PDA listing so someone has gone in and done some manipulation of the pages. Maybe I will get my wish and its this Friday Saturday or Sunday for the release. If not oh well mite just return the 8800 and wait and go with a cheap phone or one laying around the house till something comes out. Personally would like to have the newer technology, but with 3G and Wifi coming at the end of the year it mite be better off to wait.

    Time will tell
