HTC TyTN II Unboxing
The HTC TyTN II is probably one of the most anticipated Windows Mobile devices to ever be released. Does it live up to the hype? In short — yes! Talk about a tech lover’s dream, this thing has everything. From a quad-band EDGE/tri-band UMTS/HSDPA radio, to integrated GPS, 3 megapixel camera with auto-focus, 400MHz processor, full QWERTY keyboard, tilting slide out screen, Bluetooth, WiFi; the list goes on and on. In our opinion, this Windows Mobile device is a masterpiece. It’s comfortable to use and hold, extremely fast, and offers as much as we could want and have come to expect in a WinMo device at this time. With AT&T rumored to be getting it soon, the TyTN II should be very well received by customers in the USA, and around the world.
Thanks for the hookup E-Gadget Depot!

UPDATE: Just a few more general impressions from the device…When I reviewed the pre-production model I found that the connection would completely drop and would cause the device to start searching for a network from scratch. I didn’t think anything of this and thought it was due to the not final ROM. It appears the same thing is happening and after some tests I think I know why. The device does switch from EDGE to 3G pretty well sometimes, but it looks like that’s the issue. If I manually set the bands only to WCDMA, or only GSM, it will never drop a connection and lose signal. I’d expect a ROM update to resolve this soon. Also…BlackBerry Connect is awesome on here! It completely syncs OTA to your BES server and works flawlessly. Absolutely poops on Activesync in my opinion. I did notice that it slows the device down a bit which is unfortunate. Anyone got a TyTN II out there and experiencing the same things?

No doubt in my mind that this is my next phone. I can’t wait!!!

Looks Great. Now I just need AT&T to release it. While I love my Treo 750, its missing one key feature, wifi and there is no 3G in my area yet so I’m stuck at EDGE speeds. This will be a perfect replacement for it.

I would like to know, thickness wise, if this new one is any thinner than the phone it replaces?

Only 3 times a day? Besides, that’s a old WM problem, and WM6 has moved much beyond this. X can really mean close, and it’s configurable now.

It’s a brick, I can not see this being in pocket or on my side. With that said, it really doesn’t matter too much what it can do, I can see carrying this as much as I can see carrying around a laptop. I’m sticking with blackberry over this or the iphone for that matter.

You guys are all idiots, until any phone has a web browser like safari, which is a joke that they don’t seeing as they have had much more time to develop it, all other phones are obsolete.

@Tyler
You are very, very, VERY apple biased and you obviously haven’t looked underneath the hood of the iPhone then the Kaiser. Because if you had the Kaiser has many more technologically advanced things. And internet isn’t everything. I’m not bashing the iPhone since I am considering getting one although, the further I look into it do I see its many more flaws which are keeping me from dropping the money this very minute(so is this piece of artwork that came out of HTC’s womb), That comment was one of the most obscenely stupid ones I have ever seen on this website because you are saying by the end of the day there is only one good device out there, and that is the iPhone. Correct me if I’m, but that is what everybody who has read it told me they got from it.

Why isn’t Verizon getting this phone???

THE iPHONE and the KAISER are both excellent phones, and the iPhone is def. not a kids phone, but the Kaiser is not a “flashy” phone, the iphone is very cool looking and a head turner, the Kaiser is not a head turner it looks just like the ugly HTC 8525, I have the P4350(wing) and i’m gonna switch to the iphone ($299) for the 4gb!!
The kaiser Kills the iphone on the specs sheet , but not looks wise

Jeff, you are right that was a bad post by him. Safari is the best browser out there in my opinion but that and the media are the real strengths of the iphone.
the Tilt looks to have better email and contacts as well as the camera and video chat.
WM though does look ancient compared to the speed and fluidity of the apple OS. Both good products but neither i think is perfect. Tilt of course isnt released but it has the toys but the question is if WM can make them work well and fast.

We need a comparison of the Nokia E90 with the Kaiser :p
THAT’S where the real comparison is

I love this phone I really would like to see it in my nice hands.

all the apple fan boys raving about the safari browser on the iphone are complete morons. the nokia e series phones have had the same browser for at least two years prior to the release of the iphone. the browser was developed using the open source webkit, which safari is based on. and by the way, some of those nokia phones also have 3g, so the browser’s actually usable.

it’s there… not completely, buy you can tell it’s a bit chubby…
what did you expect? 3G and video needs space

test, nailed it right on the head there although from my experience WM runs just as good as the apple OS, but we both saw different phones and that could have something to do with it.

Dropped in at an Atlanta ATT store yesterday—-sales associate was aware of Tilt and has seen it demo, but could not give me a date. He was kind enough to call his store manager, who was on vacation, who stated that the date is October, but would not give a specific date.

As the Caveman said so eloquently in the TV
commercial…
…”yeah, I have a response…
…what?”
Funny you think that Safari is a good browser
for mobiles.

Question…
1. On picture 12 (the one with the Programs screen) I see the app called Internet Sharing. Does this mean that the Kaiser will not support legacy DUN bluetooth and only support the PAN protocol?

The HTC TyTn II will quietly come on the scene and will be the best phone on the market. It will not have all the Marketing and Media but will have the specs to back it up.
Verizon is far behind in technology on phones…
Kaiser far better phone than iphone will ever be.

if only all phones lived up to their specs.
Let’s wait for some more reviews people before we continue this flame war.

Yeah.
EVDO Rev A. is way old technology.
I’m not sure what the primary differences are
between the Kaiser and xv6800 other than the
Kaiser’s tilt screen and the fact that the
xv6800 will enjoy bandwidth speeds superior to
anything the Kaiser can look forward too.

Well that and the Kaiser has double the system RAM that should be standard for WinMo Phones.

i agree with oghowie, just wait and try one out and then make up your mind. Specs and Stats are good but if the OS is slow then no thanks.
