Apple iPod Classic Unboxing
We’re not sure where to start on this one…The new iPod Classic features an all metal body, looks very sharp, and feels pretty good in the hand when you’re using it. The problem for us, is actually using it. It could be just this unit so don’t go and dismiss it right away, but we found unlike previous iPods, we have to press really hard on the click-wheel to register "clicks". Not the physical buttons, but the actual scrolling motion. The UI looks pretty nice and is visually polished, but we found it pretty slow — definitely slower than the 5G iPod! Sound quality as always was very good, but we felt like it would "WOW" us a little more than this…
Thanks to the 5th Ave Apple Store for being open 24/7 to aid in our late night Apple fiends! We just wish they had the 160GB version in stock.

I want one! The metal shiny face

I thought I had weird hours…
is the classic a worthy apple purchase for someone looking for a new ipod in light of the impending ‘touch’ release?
what i’m asking is…why would anyone buy this instead of a touch besides the price…
or am I way off base…?
if I needed a new ipod and the choice were bewteen the two I think the touch would win hands down no?
I could be wrong…

16GB is not nearly enough for many people. I want to be able to carry around my whole music library, that’s why I bought this instead of a touch.

You really should head over to Apple’s website.
The site explains the differences between the iPod Touch and the iPod Classic.
Two of the most obvious differences you will notice is, one has a touch sreen, the other has the scroll pad. Another difference you will notice is storage. The iPod Classic offers 80 gigs or 160 gigs worth of music/video storage, while the iPod Touch only offers 8 gigs or 16 gigs.
If space is what you’re after, go for the iPod Classic. If you like the “hey I want to look like I have an iPhone” factor, go for the iPod Touch (but realize it lacks a good amount of storage the classic has).
On another note, I don’t really care for the design of this iPod. I’m really not liking the “wind effect”. I don’t understand why the corners need to look so…round/smoothed. It looks unappealing (to me).
I’m sure plenty of people like it, but personally, I don’t.
Plus, I’m not really liking the split screen. :-/

It looks nice but I think for being the classic it really lost that classic ipod look. Especially not coming in white. The nano actually looks nicer. But I’m waiting for the touch

Not everyone can survive with 8gb or less of storage. Remember that people also still use iPods as portable hard drives, and some people like to carry their entire music collection with them, not just a handful of albums and selections. Just like the iPhone, I have no desire or need for an iPod touch. I’ll definitely upgrade my iPod for an iPod classic though, especially since the body is all metal now.

would anyone be getting the limited edtion pink zune instead of the new iPods remember its only 1000 being made, not that they will sell in less than 6 months by the way but who knows maybe ballmer would send out one of his bodies to grab them all so M$ wont look that bad, I wish I could get one to blend the heck out of it, so I can get even from buying a zune 4 months and selling it at a loss a month after on ebay

When the iPod Touch is released with a capacity of at least 30 gigs, I’ll get one… until then, I’ll stick with my 30GB 5th gen.

Unlike most people I have a Creative Zen Vision:M (ZVM) and really enjoy using it even though I don’t have all the gagets that the ipods have. Only problem is that for some reason Creative seems to have forgotten about their large capacity DAP’s. Now I am looking at getting a new DAP and have very few choices, I saw a post on another site about a full screen creative option yet no mention of capacity. The ipods as bad/good as they are they have managed to keep people content specially with the slimmer more powerful lines. So what is a non-ipod user do when the only optimal option is to go with an ipod??
Yes I know there other DAP’s out there but these two seem to be the best. Are there any suggestions for others?

@ BG,
Galvatron shouldn’t be able to post.
He’s rude and everyone hates him.
I know it’s ‘his right’ to post, but he shouldn’t need to be like that.
Go ahead Gal, take away karma.

I’m going to get a new iPod (most likely the classic) after I either buy a Kaiser or iPhone, but I’m only going to get an iPhone if the Kaiser doesn’t come out by the end of the month. So don’t quote me on saying I’m going to buy one because I only said I would buy one if the Kaiser doesn’t come out by the end of the month. BUT NOBODY HOLD ME TO THAT SINCE I DON’T KNOW IF I REALLY WANT TO GET AN IPHONE.

I am going to hold you TO THAT.
no Kaiser by Oct. 1st = iPhone for Jeff B.

@Jeff B. - I’m going to hold you to that BIG TIME. Now you HAVE to get an iPhone. I’m going to quote you too.
I’m torn between the large capacity of the classic and all the other features of the touch…I really don’t know what to do. Maybe the touch is too big for working out, etc. I do like the idea of the wifi and safari, and also wifi itunes.
