Zune slashes price $50, still no one cares

Amidst all the Apple accolades that have come as a result of the multiple debuts yesterday, including the iPod Touch, new Nano, and cheaper 8GB iPhone, Microsoft continues to try to limp the Zune to the finish line. Announced the same day, the 30-gigabyte Zune has dropped $50 to $199. With Apple announcing "Classic" versions of the iPod at up to 160GB, and the new iPod Touch, with its sexy interface, is this enough to get anyone to move on a Zune? Maybe you’d like to "squirt" a song to someone instead of purchasing one over Apple’s new Wireless Store? We sure don’t think so…

I think the title says it all, no one cares about the zune. Microsoft needs to give up, say uncle and move on!

There is no way a price drop will affect sales of ipod. Even with zune 2 its still going to be like the first zune and will not compare to the ipod touch.

Microsoft has not been even close to aggressive enough with the Zune. They need to do like Palm did with the Foleo – scrap the current project and take it back to the drawing board. Take another year and give us a well thought product that actually competes. It’s not all bad with the Zune. There are some great things about it in terms of hardware and UI. Microsoft just needs to bring the complete package (software, capacity, un-crippled feature-set.)

I’m all for another great player to hit the market. I don’t care if it’s Microsoft, Creative, iRiver, Archos, Cowon or some unknown company that emerges from out of nowhere – I just want to see someone give Apple something to worry about for a change!

Microsoft should just give these things away for free; then, they could move a couple hundred units.

I messed around with one a friend owns. I thought it was garbage. Don’t laugh, but my Dell DJ is still rocking! YEAH BABY!

The Zune isn’t a terrible product.
It’s stable, the hardware is solid (and secure), plus the sound quality is excellent.
I personally noticed a sound quality difference between the Zune and the iPod when I tested them. :-/

Nonetheless, the Zune Software is terrible. It is slow, buggy, and very crippled.

I like the Zune, but I hate the idea of a social. Being social with your music is lame. Invite people to your house if you want to share music.

The Zune could be great if it focused on creating a solid user experience with the device, and with the software that is use with the device.

Personally, I miss the Toshiba Gigabeat. :-/

Slow and buggy sounds like the rest of software created by ms. Any player that comes out has to have a leg up on the ipod to even compete. Maybe what needs to happen is to go for a niche. Maybe build a better ipod mini or shuffle as a start. In any case the zune has had its 15 minutes in the sun…or moon.

you guys must have remembered the first ipod and the first version of itunes… how GREEEEEEEEEAT it was… NOT

zune has closely done what the xbox did… come out of nowhere… and produce something useable.. sure with lots of flaws… but how many versions of the ipod came out before everyone when nuts… 4?
