Rogers is sold out of current models Canada wide. There may be a few in some small town stores I was told. So I began caling found a store with two. Great I said hold me one. Are you a new customer? I was asked, no I said I’m updating. Sorry, reserved for new customers only….lets see…spend thousands a year on cell service…get nothing, spend nothing, get the toys first.hhmmm…I like the robbers comment earlier, shame they are the only GMS carrier…we get sooooo ripped of in north amaerica…I was in England a few weeks ago, great service, tons of cheap deals amazing.

I’m keeping an eye on this supposed release of the 8310 to Rogers in Canada.
I’m in Vancouver BC and both Wirelesswave (www.wirelesswave.com) and Rogers locations are unsure as to its actual date of release. When I called both local locations, the reps (one a manager) seemed to be under the impression it was coming with wifi…
I’m guessing they had this mixed up with integrated GPS. Hopefully it will make an appearance this week!

I just saw an Unlocked BlackBerry 8310 on Ebay a little while ago for $699.. It is Rogers branded and imported to the united states. So there you go. only one so good luck.

Jim – I care about GPS, I can think of a handful of reasons to have GPS which means there are alot more reasons i’m not thinking of.

I care about Wi-Fi too, but how long until blackberrys have standard 3G connections.. or maybe better.. where does that leave Wi-Fi.. but don’t worry GPS will be around for a long time you can count that it won’t go obsolete.

So who really cares about GPS. I don’t need a cell phone to wrap myself around a tree while driving in an attempt to use GPS on a screen about 3 inches wide. Give me a break – GPS is meant for cars not cell phones. Totally inefficent and very expensive.

The real issue here is where is WiFi?? That’s what’s missing here. When is RIM going to wake up and put together a phone which has a camera and WiFi? Do we have to wait until December 24th??

bbcurve8300, i’m with you, the gps is not a must have thing.

If I had a 8300 then no, I wouldn’t care enough to bother with it. I probbly won’t wait but it would be nice to have the extras, the 8300 will suite me just fine though.

ultimately I want to mesh the 8820 with the 8300 and have it all. I’m sure it will eventually get there but I think they are going to deal out one card at a time to maximize on each feature as selling points.

On the other side of a hardware wish lists, from that point of the have it all device the software suite really needs to be advanced quite a bit.

Still does not help in any way with the stupidly high priced data plans on robbers, and I have no real need for the GPS so I will just keep my 8300, but good to see their keeping up.

I think in that your giving RIM too much credit. Their strategy is too stretch out the life of each model and this situation is how they do it. They will release the ones with toys once the sales slow on the current models. If they slow faster in Europe then ship the new ones there. Thats my take on it, might be wrong but make sense to me.

Since carriers pretty much want to force you into a data plan, the wi-fi on the 8820 didn’t seem that great. This was the perfect alternitive for my situation, still get GPS, gain a camera, but have to deal with EDGE network speed. sounds like an okay compromise to me.

I’d like to see the MicroSD-HC come to this device like the 8820.

I’d like to see it in the united states. Some reason it just seems something like this.

RIM: hey united states carriers we got this new device your customers will love!

US Carrier: nah thats okay we have too much old inventory, you know all that we ordered to get that exclusive a while back.

RIM: yea sure.

US Carrier: Yea we kinda take naps on marketing these devices out and order too much to begin with so we are just going to have to have our customers soak this one up for a while, we don’t think they will mind being behind all other countries by several months.

RIM: alright guys, well we will get your order routed over to europe instead. *click*
