Apple axes iPod Hi-Fi
One of Apple’s first, and most controversial forays into the consumer electronics arena has been eighty-sixed. The iPod Hi-Fi, that hulking mass of white plastic and black speaker grille, is no longer available from any of Apple’s retail channels. Are we sad? Not really. We will be the first to admit that the iPod Hi-Fi had an incredible set of speakers on it. It reproduced sound in an elegant and accurate way. The problem, however, was that it was as ugly as sin. Not since the the pre-Jobs era has Apple produced such a hulkingly unattractive product, and it’s presence served to disrupt an aesthetically mature and cultured product line. Add that to a $349 price tag, and you have the recipe for poor sales and consumer backlash. In short, its departure came not a moment too soon. Bye, iPod Hi-Fi, but it’s hard to get too upset when the iPod Touch is oh-so-close.
add this one to their small list of flops. can’t blame them for trying, lot of companies make money from ipod accessories, might as well try to get in but this was a bad product.
Ok for tha amount of money they ar charging I could buy a Bose PC 5.1 souround sound system. Apples goota ditch elstevo again and get rid of this record company metality apple died the day steve woziack quit without woz steve jobs was Nothing but an angry psyco tripping on acid.
that was a C- for spelling and a definite F for pure Stupidity. Yeah the company is more profitable than ever, standing up against both the record companies and other media giants, so Steve needs to step down? Get a clue and pull your bias out of your arse. Woz is happy doing his own thing but is still a huge, huge apple fan, dont get that wrong.
They are pulling it to retool it for iphone and ipod touch (and may be nano since it is wider) compatiblity. You know this… I know this..
WELL I HAVE TO SAY SINCE THEY ARE SLASHING THEIR PRICES LIKE IT’S ON SALE FOR 19.95 MAYBE THEY SHOULD HAVE CONSIDER DROPPING THE PRICE ON THIS JUNK. ELECTRONICS GIANTS THAT MAKE THIS KIND OF THING AND HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR YEARS COULDN’T GET AWAY WITH A SUBPAR PRODUCT LIKE THAT.
