LG’s VX8800 and LG VX10000 live shots!
Are you an LG fan with a chip on your shoulder? Brush it off, cause we’ve got some brand new LG shots to make your day. First up is the LG VX10000, which you might remember from a little while back. This device is set to replace the current LG enV as the Verizon messaging phone of the moment. The enV is a pretty slick device, but from these shots it’s clear that the VX10000 is trying to blow the enV out of the water. It looks like a sort of hybrid between the enV and the Prada phone. Not a bad pedigree if you ask us.We just have a major issue with Verizon’s UI. The screens are gorgeous, with both vertical and landscape displays. The keyboard also looks pretty good, with appropriate spacing between each key, and what appears to be ample space in between buttons. Next up is the VX8800, which is an update to the VX8550. Specs are unknown at this point, but one thing is clear: this is a clean looking handset. It sports a touchscreen interface in addition to the slide out number pad, giving it a leg up when compared to similar fashion-oriented sliders from companies like Nokia and Samsung. Pics of the VX8800 and VX10000 after the jump. Enjoy!

Must not be such a great touch-screen if the menu needs a joystick area for scrolling rather than having a scrollable screen.
And the included keypad, along with making the phone thicker and heavier, isn’t even a QWERTY keypad. Neither is the touchscreen keypad. Probably because the screen is too small.
Let’s not forget that the iPhone is not just a plain touchscreen, it’s a combination of a multi-point touchscreen, sensorscreen, and accelerometer. So no I don’t consider the LG phones to be a copy of the iPhone, but I certainly consider them to be inferior.
Along with the iPhone screen being larger and clearer than anything before it. All of that comes with far more memory than anything before it.
And apparently a few of you missed today’s announcement that all of this now comes at $400, not $600. So now it’s also far cheaper than any comparable phone currently out there. Especially when you add the cost of the extra memory cards you would need for any other phone to match the iPhone’s memory.

I agree. Verizon has become the Old Bell Telephone (’ma Bell” - don’t fool with her) - like a huge government bureaucracy that feels entitled. So far - probably because ATT/Cingular is out there - service remains superior on Verizon. But their skills at bringing new phones to market in a timely way is bizarre. For me and my friends, service and innovation will make the winner in the long run - so far, Verizon is ok on one count.

I agree. Verizon is lurching toward becoming the Old Bell Telephone (”Ma Bell” - don’t fool with her) - like a huge government bureaucracy that feels entitled. So far - probably because ATT/Cingular is out there - service remains superior on Verizon. But their skills at bringing new phones to market in a timely way is bizarre. For me and my friends, service and cool technology will make the winner in the long run - so far, Verizon is good on service, but bureaucracies don’t just can’t innovate.

I dunno how you could think the 10k inferior to the iphone… the 10k is an inferior ipod perhaps, but for those of us who like pix messages, video capture, dedicated tactile buttons (not those god awful touch qwerty keys the iphone sports) Location Based Navigation, and a MUCH faster, and more reliable network (for data and calls), and a battery thats removable. the 10k doesnt need to be groundbreaking for it to be way more practical, and generally better than the ishit. Lemme go through 5 steps to make a phone call. Dont bite the hype

This whole “iPhone vs. ____” debate is ridiculous. As with any other innovation, the one who makes the most noise writes the history books. Ergo, iPhone is widely credited as the first touchscreen phone (though not true- the Prada *was* first to market.) Furthermore, name a single successful feature that hasn’t been adopted by its competition. (Thank you, Apple, for the Recycle Bin on MS Windows.)
The iPhone satisfaction rate is misleading as well. Compare that 92% satisfaction rate against how many are existing Mac users. Apple’s consumer loyalty is among the highest in the world.
Bottom line, the iPhone had some of the LG 10x’s features first. In no way does that mean it’s automatically superior OR inferior. This is just someone else’s implementation of those same ideas. Personally, this is what I was waiting for: the best parts of an iPhone worked into something NOT an iPhone.

Makes good sense. Our group would like to stay with Verizon, but now that we are all out of contract, with mostly older phones, we’re ready for some cooler and more capable equipment. Verizon is SO SLOW about getting out new stuff, that our hearts are wandering. The other big draw for the iPhone is that for those of us who are MAC folks (in our case, all but one of our group), is the more comfortable interface for music. It would sure help if Verizon gave us availability dates for the new LGs.

the question is, is the touch screen smart enough to not need a stylus??

and besides the iPhone is crap even if they dropped the price! i know im gonna be pummled because of this but bare with me here- the iPhone IS a revolutionary device, the things it can do it does amazingly. but the things Jobs said are the ONLY things it can do. it doesnt matter if the iPhone has updates that will ‘down the road make it even more perfect’ because down the road more and more cell phones will surpass it! meaning the phone will never be able to match its hype!
though the iPhone is [like all other Apple products] a revolutionary benchmark in the technology market, it will always be surpassed by phones that give u wat u want now instead of later! [and no one even knows when that 'later' is!!]
in any event, i think LG made a brilliant decision in making the phone a sleek touchscreen WITH a full QWERTY keyboard. the only way the can screw up the look of the new vx100000 is if they put an ugly as TV antenna and a stylus for the touchscreen. otherwise, this could very well be an iPhone-killer. but until we get the specs and features, we wont know.

i doubt this touchscreen is much more than a gimmick. Let see what kind of functionality it has before saying its anything-killer, and its on verizon so i’m skeptical.

verizon will probably cripple the touch screen too and charge for vz touch 9.99 / mo

“VZ Touch.” That’s hilarious! The not-so-funny part is that I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they did it…

i saw this phone and smiled. in my opinion this is the closest thing to Samsungs F700 i will ever get on verizon. the full QWERTY keyboard appeals to my somewhere near 9,000 texts a send and recieve every month…week…day =/ while the touch screen will apeal more to my fashionista side. i personally love it.
and the the apple zombi…iphone noo…idiots out there the prada was first…which was by lg. apple is as innovative as david shaffer. the ipod was not the first mp3 player and the only reason i have one is because you have to have ne now to be considered a human of sorts. and the iphone. i held one, played with one. hated it. if i trid to back on forth between things it was just as slow as my outdated. and similarly over-rated chocolate. not to mention that when my friend ashley dropped hers ONCE it broke…what a load of crap…

You have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to the LG 8700. I carry this phone and all of the shortcut keys are the ones I chose for it. You can change all of them. You could not do so on older models that Verizon came out with such as the Samsung A950, and yes that was a pain, but that is no longer an issue with the newer models.

I would seriously considering buying this phone. If it has wi-fi, I’m sold!

9000 texts?… sheesh, they ought to hike your bill just for the load on the network!

1 word. Ew.
Heres why:
1.-same shitty keyboard as the envy. Original V users know this keyboard isnt near as responsive or efficient as the original V.
2.- Same stupid hinge on the phone causing the screen to angle down and be somewhat cut off just like the envy. Ugly, and not efficient.
3.- why the HELL is there still a digital pad keyboard/numberpad on it? If it has a touchscreen front, why not a touchscreen keyboard/numberpad? Its not that hard to do.
I give this a big 0.
and I’ll stick with my brick-of-a-V until I see something better come along.
