Apple iPhone 8GB now only $399!

Wow, guys! They are sure going to get a ton of sales with this move. Effective immediately, Apple’s iPhone in the 8GB variation will be just $399. That’s $200 less than the $599 price it sold at just a couple seconds ago. What is unclear, is if the 4GB model will be discontinued…after all, no one bought them. Anyone picking up an iPhone now that it is just $399?

UPDATE: 4GB iPhones are going for $299 "while supplies last." If you bought one within 14 days and wish to take advantage of the adjusted discounted pricing, you will be charged a 10% restocking fee, we’ve been told. To put this in perspective, an 8GB iPhone bought at $599, will yield $141 in savings after the adjusted price and restocking fee. The 4GB will give you $151 back.

I have been eyeballing this for some time. I am not really an Apple fan, but this might be an option soon.

$299 sounds so much better, anybody want to sell theirs?

lol, well that was quite a bit of product news. They put on press conferences like no other. Lot of good products and the best for me is the price drop as its competitively priced now i think, maybe even a deal?

That’s kind of B.S. if you ask me!! Lower the price on a $ 599 product only TWO months after it was released? I should return mine (got it 3 weeks ago) – take the 10% restocking charge- then re-BUY it for $ 399…!! it will still save me $ 140…!! This is very annoying….

Adam, in theory, yes you are right and I expect a ton of people to “return” them and re-purchase at the lower price. The problem, is you are out of your return period. It is only 14 days from the date of purchase… :(

I’m still within my 14 day return period. I just called the store and they’re gonna credit me $200 when I bring in my receipt. I would be pissed if I was outside the 14 day time frame.

Wow, that just made my decision to go with with 8820 for now that much harder. I was waiting for it to come out on T-Mob. But with the iPhone only about 100 bucks more, hmm hmm hmm.

I returned mine a week ago and got $628 back. ( Full price)!!!! I think I am still going to wait until they open it up just a little. Besides if they have a 16GB flash ipod touch, you know the 16GB iphone will be coming soon!!!! Why else would they drop the price?

    Synergy says:

Adam what would you have them do? Lower the price 6 months after release? You buy when you buy, don’t worry about the price. If you have to have the latest and greatest that and you are not willing to wait that is the price to pay. Those who bought RAZRs when they first came out paid a heavy price too. Now you can get them for free with a 2 year contract. Their price as well dropped fast.

This is just dumb! I just sold an iPhone to a lady, then I read this…The phone is still showing as $599 here at the at&t stores, so if you bought it from a store, don’t expect a refund, and then price-matching…it aint gonna happen, I’m not gonna lose my job so you can save yourself $200! Until at&t shows the price as $399…your still screwed by apple and thier damn policy of no discounting!

I piss 200 dollars but I hate being played like this. No worries though, I will recoup my money when I short sell Apple in a month. Why would anyone run out and buy a ipod touch now? They will just drop the price in a month.

I believe we’ll see a 16GB iPhone with 3G by this Christmas, honestly. They can’t launch the iPhone without 3G in Europe, and don’t think they’d launch it there without releasing a 3G one here in the states…

BGR – yep, you are absolutely right , I’m SOL. (man 14-days flies when you are having fun with your new toy!)

Synergy – I hear you – believe me. I suppose as a technology / software business owner, I think of economies of scale….if you are selling all you can (so to speak) at a certain price, why lower it so fast? Yes, I know – a lower price of $ 399 could (will) increase volume – I get that…but I suppose I wasn’t expecting the drop so damn fast. I guess Apple feels that a 35% price decrease (and subsequent decrease in profit margin) will more than stimulate the demand for the product in order to make up for the loss of margin.

Anyhoo, I digress. I understand the dangers of early-adoption only too well. Still loving the device – and excited for a few more software updates (hopefully soon!)

Go apple! That 16GB ipod touch is looking nice. But the iPhone still appeals to me more… My only question is when will the 16GB iPhone w/ US 3G drop? That’s when apple will p0wn me.

I want to get BB 8320 (Papa Bear) for Christmas. This will force RIMM to lower Papa Bear’s price. Thanks Apple.

Apple needs to unlock and sell iPhones world wide. Nokia and other mobile phones manufacturers will be able to produce “similar” devices soon. Hopefully it’s not going to be like Apple OS vs Windows. Apple created a GUI OS long time before Microsoft created Windows. But Windows became more popular than Apple OS.

OH….and YES – I AM glutton for punishment – and would pay $ 599 (again) to upgrade to the 16GB iPhone with 3G….assuming BGR is right on the XMAS guess-ti-mate. I’m sure they’ll start it out at $ 599 and drop it a few months later too – but no, no, no – I won’t be able to wait! (sigh….)
