Apple iPhone outsells all smartphones in July

Reuters came out with a news story with statistical data by iSuppli claiming that both Apple’s iPhone models, the 4GB and 8GB out sold RIM’s whole BlackBerry lineup, the entire Palm line, and also any single smartphone that Motorola, Nokia, or Samsung had to offer. This accounted for 1.8% of all mobile phones sold in July in the US. They’re predicting 4.5M iPhones sold by the end of this year, and over 30M sold by the year 2011. We tend to agree.

I know I love mine. Switched over from a BB 8830. I love BlackBerrys, but I had enough of them doling out features one device at a time. If email is time sensitive, then there is nothing better than a BB. However, for everything else? iPhone beats it.

Does anyone know if a cameraless iPhone will come out anytime soon?
That would satisfy my need for a nice internet smartphone and would satisfy my employer in not having a camera. They could sell an add on for those times not at work.

Although it is possible for 30 million iPhones to sell by 2011, I highly doubt that a competing phone won’t come out before then.

Sorry, I gave the iPhone a fair try, and it didn’t work for me. I’m not saying it’s a terrible device, I’m saying it didn’t meet my needs, and it doesn’t meet many other individual needs as well.

I think someone (whether it be Palm, Microsoft, RIM, or another company) will release a very competitive product, way before 2011 comes along. :-/

I do wonder where they pulled data from? Is this Iphone against smartphones with At&T? or is this through all major carriers in the US. Alltel, Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T? together could not out sell the Iphone?

Are you kidding me. Big deal. Let’s see the sales for the second month after all the bent up demand is gone. I promise you RIM and Palm both out sold the iPhone in August!!!

I find it interesting that a lot of news sites are reporting that the iphone has had disapointing sales, when they have sold off the charts and are still selling like hotcakes, just interesting is all.

When I ran into a friend who’s a big biotech wonk at lunch, and he whipped out his iPhone and started showing me photos, whipping through his latest vacation, I knew the iPhone would eventually define how every phone that sells well (i.e. no Windows or Palm-based phones) will be some day.

    “They’re predicting…over 30M sold by the year 2011.”

Can someone tell me who is going to buy a first generation iPhone in 2010? Don’t get me wrong, it has a super slick UI and surfing the web with wifi (and only wifi) is heavenly, but everything else about the phone screams 2006. I’m not sure they’ll be able to sustain strong sales beyond mid-2008, unless they’re planning on opening shop some place where no one’s heard of 3g, video recording, GPS, etc.

I am tired of Mac fan boys and fan girls always treating anything apple makes like gold even Steve Jobs feces could probably sell on eBay for 100’s its worth if it was made of the highest quality gold.

No I do not hate Apple or Microsoft but I am tired of the shit that comes out of the fanatics of both sides you just hear more from the Mac side in my case, I swear one more person with a mac book pro sees me with my toshiba and tries and convert me I will take there macbook and beat them to death with it
