Another PS3 price cut forthcoming?

As 60GB PS3’s start to die off, speculation is abounding about the $499 price tag. Will Sony let it disappear? Will the 80GB version start sporting this price? Perhaps an "added value" bundle is in the works. Regardless of which Sony chooses (if any), the hot new rumor from simExchange is that they’ll make some kind of announcement at the Tokyo Game Show, which takes place later this month. Too bad none of these rumors address what gamers have been fighting for in the first place: more/better games, increased 3rd party support, and some kind of strategy to close the gap on the Xbox 360 and the "I can out-sell the PS3 three-to-one" Wii.

Thank you for covering our report. You can find the original and complete report here: http://www.thesimexchange.com/research-report.php?id=3&r=1

Just to clarify, our report suggets that due to the sales difference between the Xbox 360 and the PS3 (including the forecasts for both consoles in August and September), Sony would have to do something such as a price cut or bundle games to reverse this trend.

Our forecasts are based on gamers trading virtual stocks on the simExchange video game stock market to predict how games and consoles will sell and are not the forecasts of an individual analyst.

they need to do something. That price tag and the lack of any big name games are slowly dragging the PS3 into troubled waters. I have the 360 and could not be happier so when i see a cheaper price tag and a great experience then i see no interest in the PS3.
I read recently that the xbox has just become profitable so I understand that to mean that they could make a cut to match sony if they need to, but with Halo 3 on the horizon i doubt it.

It’s sooooooooo easy to replace the hard drive in it, I just don’t see why people don’t just do that. All you have to do is backup the hard drive with another (or your computer) and take off the hdd cover then undo the blue screw and slide it right with the metal handle then undo the four screws and take off the metal cover then slide it out put in the new one and put it back in the metal cover, put it in the system, put in the blue screw, and turn it on. It will format the hdd and then you can put everything back on. Since the system OS is on a different part of the system (its own memory) you don’t need to care for it and then you have enough space to put on Windows, Mac, or Linux. The hdd only has to be a 2.5 incher (laptop drive) and the size is as big as you can afford.

Does installing a new HDD void the warranty?

Not that I know of. I didn’t find anything in the owners manual but if you do let me know. But it’s so easy I just don’t see why you don’t put in the original hdd before sending it in for repairs.

If you want a more detailed description on how to put in a new hdd go to http://www.cnettv.com and go to the right side or search upgrade a ps3 hard drive. That should give you all the info you need.
