BlackBerry 8820 on AT&T: Soft launch today?

We just got word that the BlackBerry 8820 might be "soft launching" on AT&T today. That means the unit should slowly be making the rounds into stores, and will possibly be available for direct ordering and/or Premier soon. Pricing is said to be the same as the current BlackBerry 8800, which would put it at $299 after a 2 year agreement. All BlackBerry 8800 shipments have been stopped indefinitely as far as we’re aware. They’re all EOL’d. If we’re lucky, I think we can expect these 8820s in stores by tomorrow.
Thanks, Mursin!

Sounds good why would ATT/RIM release the 8820 anytime soon of for that matter any new Blackberry (ATT)?. Jobs just reduced the cost of iPhone in time for Christmas. Maybe the first part of 2008. ATT is not running the asylum, Steve Jobs and Apple are. My two cents.
“Once again we sit back and wait. But personally since the Wifi and 3G BB is coming out in December “Christmas or New Year” time frame I myself just mite wait for that to happen”
it goes both ways, RIM has their goals and ATT has theirs. they dont always have the same timing as ATT wants to be competitive with other carriers and RIM wants to compete with other makers so I think sometimes they slow things down to wait for someone else to drop something.
Called Amazon – they are on pre-order and dont have it.
The BB 8310 (aka Papa Bear) has just been dropped on German soil today at 0900GMT, Vodafone Store in Neutremstrasse 1, Munich. However, it comes only with a plan (no unlocked version yet). I’m betting the entire stock won’t last until the end of this week. Somebody help me rob this store
In reply to the comment about the new 8300 curve … assuming you mean the T-Mobile version with UMA (wifi) it WILL be release on Sept. 24th. I’ve have a pre-release eval unit IN MY HAND since last week.
It’s great except for the ugly gold color
Amazon has it as of today…

I went to 2 at&t stores in NYC today and talked to the store managers (34th st and 86th st) and got the same answer:
“We might get the 8820 around the end of the month or most likely not before next month…”
They both said they get asked about the 8820 frequently and sorry that they don’t have a more concrete date to share.
So much for The Boy Genius’s “soft launch” announcement…
TBG, you might want to re-consider your sources as not-so-reliable.
Guys, I’m curious… What makes the 8820 so catchy and appealing to you ? I mean I know tastes are different, but I just can’t understand how that compacted qwerty pad can be attractive to any “on-the-go” user… Sometimes I feel I’m the only one waiting for the 8310 so anxiously
