Palm drops Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for Treo 750/750v

It’s been a long time coming, but that change done come. Palm has finally posted a Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for their Treo 750 and 750v smartphones. The update is currently only available from their European site, but that shouldn’t stop those of us over here in the US from snagging it. The Windows Mobile 6 upgrade drops the usual host of improvements, including (according to Palm):

  • Improved Calendar management with enhanced User Interface
  • Enhanced E-mail messaging, HTML/Smart Filtering, SharePoint access and more
  • Voice command via Bluetooth
  • USB cable charging

Pretty much par for the WM6 course. Of note here, however, is that Palm seems top be placing some unique restrictions on the update process, allowing users only one chance to download the software. You delete it? Too bad, sucka’. One last note: If you use BlackBerry Connect on the regular Windows Mobile 5, do not upgrade your device. Windows Mobile 6 is not currently compatible with BBC, and will leave you SOL if you execute the update. Still ready to take the plunge? Hit the link and enjoy!

So once again AT&T is late to the party and not delivering the goods. Lets see, role call. Verizon & Sprint have either announced or are selling the Razr2 V9 and Q9 variations but nothing from AT&T. Come on get the lead out.

well thats good they are getting out updates.. but in the big picture doesn’t it seem like palm is in this hole and falling quickly.. Other companies are putting out these devices that a Palm would have a tough time even trying to compete with at all.. and palm.. well they give you a software update on an old device.

Are you guys over there even trying to keep up or just sitting on the bench. Seems like the only planning going on over there is the planning to fail.

Why is this article touting WM6 for the 750? Per the provided link, the executable is “Coming soon”.

Coming soon for the "Generic non branded (O2, KPN)" devices.

Not really – The update is only currently available for the 750v, which appears to be specific to the UK, Ireland, and Netherlands.

As far as I know in American English, drops = to come to an end; cease; lapse; to withdraw; quit; to withdraw or cease to pursue.

BGR’s continual misuse in the headline confuses the hell out of me. I think you’re looking for “releases”, or “announces”.

@ ppcmd, They did announce the V9, the same day as VZ and Sprint. They are actually in the warehouse now, so they should start shipping soon. They Q9 hasn’t been announced because Cingular/ATT, WM, & Moto don’t mix very well. Remember the mx220? Yikes!! It’s coming, just making sure it work at least decent.

NuShrike – Glad you figured all that out, American slang is hard for many.

It’s like when people say thats the dogs bollocks, I have the hardest time figuring out how that is a positive thing. I’d hate to be anythings bollocks.

The restrictions on the download process have come about b/c of new requirements from Microsoft – nothing Palm can do about it.
