HTC insider confirms Google Phone?
This is pretty big, dear readers. If rumors shall hold true, then HTC is currently hard at work on a handset device. This wouldn’t sound at all interesting except for one small fact: it’s being custom built for none other than Google. Google has been slapping its mobile apps onto phones of all shapes and sizes for a while now, but has yet to drop a self-branded device. Rumors of a true Google phone, however, have been around almost as long as the iPhone rumors….that’s a long time, folks. HTC has apparently hooked up over 20 designs for Google to choose from. The winning handset will sport a custom version of Google Maps with built-in GPS, GMail, and Calender support, as well as Google Talk with VoIP (read: Wi-Fi) capability. All in all, this sounds like a match made in heaven. Expect this to drop sometime during Q1 of next year if things pan out.

Sorry but I call BS. Unless of course BG posted this then I MIGHT believe it…

Who is this “Google”, i am not familiar.

I think Josh here has the same credibility as BG now.
And i beleive this but am not sure how different it will be. I’m looking forward to seeing the OS more than the phone itself.

with all googlish bellsnwisteles, I hope it’s still a decent phone unlike what you have with iPhone where you have so much stunning eye-candy and a pretty crappy phone.

if it’s Q1 who is the carrier?

Look at this thing, if BG or Josh or God came down and launched this “phone” it would still look ridiculous. And I am talking about the picture above. Not a REAL Google phone. I mean come on people. Not for nothing we all know NSA pwns AT&T but Google does a good deal of data mining too. I think im going to get myself a StarTAC Motorola and call it a day

This is the phone I’m wanting, so long as the design is nice and the OS works. I speculate that Google will deliver the opposite of what the iPhone is. I am so gosh-danged sick of the iPhone that I could tear off my own iEars to not listen to it any iLonger.
The Google phone will:
-Be nice looking (I personally love HTC products)
-Be packed with features
-Be relatively inexpensive (I hope)
-Give other manufacturers a reason to re-evaluate their game.

As long as it’s voice activated and no touching. That would make it the coolest thing ever.

I love how everyone gets excited because it’s Google. What is Google? It’s a brand. Suckers will buy this phone because of the brand equity in the Google name.
You know HTC won’t have a say in anything outside of design and core functionality installation. Too bad too, cuz HTC knows what they are doing.
This will flop.
I really hope this is VZ “answer” to iPhone. Lol.

It’s a little too late. When it’s officially released, iPhone will have 16GB capacity, unlocked, and cost only $300.

It looks like it’s going to launch in India first. Can http://www.business-standard.com/ be trusted?

Looks sweet, sry sounds sweet but I’m gonna get my kaiser, if it ever comes out, if it doesn’t then this’ll be the next one.

and it will still be a crappy device as far as phones are concerned. it might do a lot of things, but the RF part will suck.

I want to see concept designs from the designers, that will prove how real or not it will be. Also if HTC is working with google you can bet it will be something sweet. Now if this ends up being another BS story, we can just move on and call it a day.

Here are some predictions of mine:
* The phone won’t be locked if they chose a GSM version
o That will be totally against Google’s Open policy
* You can bet that it would be supported by advertisements
* Google will have a mobile pack for software developers
* The carrier in US would be Sprint, given their recent partnerships with Google
o HTC also has very good relations with Sprint

Google makes simple apps that are useful. Apple makes slick apps that are….well…pretty.
I’m sure Google’s phone will appeal to me more than Apple’s.
I wonder though…if they are indeed fashioning an OS, are third-party developers invited? Will you have to depend on the G-dev team for everything?
