Unlocked Apple iPhones surface on the free market

They are definitely pricey, though. Just how expensive is a fully unlocked Apple iPhone, you might be asking? $2000. You can knock the number down to a cool $750 if you happen to be able to supply your own handset and bring the thing in person to get it unlocked, but seeing as the store is located in Hong Kong, we’re guessing most of you would be interested in the former option. It’s expensive. It’s an unproven company, and less graceful, but significantly less expensive unlocking means have already surfaced, so we’d caution strongly against taking this plunge. That said, we’re just the messenger. Proceed at will, but proceed with caution.

2000 the only way that’s been establishjed so far is by making a super sim I cry foul
The irony is that it’s us (USA) that is usually trying to get other market handsets unlocked for use here – finally a cool handset here that everyone else is trying to get!
They could be roaming with a SIM on an AT&T plan for all we know.
One of my (German) friends got an iPhone from a friend (USA). His friend bought the iPhone with a regular AT&T contract. After the activation my friend can use the iPhone with his normal carrier (ePlus). Look at this picture! http://www.k3v.org/Iphone.jpg

The carrier logo at the top of the phone’s display is actually a PNG file embedded in the OS files … and iPhone does not ship with a PNG file already loaded on the phone for HK CSL … so does that mean that part of the unlocking process includes adding that new PNG file?
Smells like BS to me.
Sure?
I have some old phones, and I used them with some carriers SIMs which are new, to new for these old phones. I think, mobiles are reading the carrier’s name from the SIM.
Well if it is true, it’s waaaaay too expensive and personally I wouldn’t do that.
