Yes everyone, circle November on your calender with a Sharpie, ‘cuz that’s the date you shall be set free. Verizon’s expected to launch their BlackBerry Pearl 8130 in November and it looks like the Pearl 2 to us…It let’s you rock out at EvDO speeds, has a 2 megapixel camera, 3.5mm headset jack, and supports Stereo Bluetooth. Not too many more specs are known at this point, but I’m sure a lot of people just got really excited. One more shot after the jump!

Thanks, Omie!

Don’t listen to the haters. AT&T will have to release an iPhone every quarter if they want to keep their lead. Otherwise, they’ll lose that crown eventually.
I’m a T-Mobile user, but I’m glad Verizon is getting this. Verizon has way better call quality around here than T-Mobile or AT&T and I might actually consider them next time around with a device like this.
I like the color posted. I’m not into gaudy colors and this is the right size.
I hope it comes sooner than later.

Congrats VZW’ers! That’s a great choice for Verizon. That phone is supposed to have an external micro sd slot on the left side. With evdo to boot, that’s a winner right thar!

Verizon, give us the Curve for G0dz sake!

People are just mad @ vzw because they are on (any other network) and have horribly slow data speed and no network coverage

I don’t know why everyone is getting so excited, there just going to lock out all the things you want and need. VZW has good service over priced data services and good customer service, but a new device does not come out until 6 months plus, they attribute this to testing. In short its rewriting the OS/Firmware crippling, and testing what they locked down to sucker in more money.

Hey, be nice. You VZW guys could be not getting these devices at all. Then how would you feel. I would rather get it with restrictions than not at all. It will still have all the functions that make a blackberry a blackberry. and that’s why we want it, right??

You said it. Even crippled it has everything I need. Email, calendar, phone, contact management, stability and the right size. Everything else is gravy but not necessary for me to live my life. I cannot wait for a VZW Pearl, I have been holding my breath for a while now. I will just have to hold a bit longer. My contract is not up till October anyway!

Any word on ANYTHING for Sprint????
You know, Sprint has the best coverage out there with the fastest data plans, but there phone lineup really sucks.
What to do, get worse coverage, slower data and better phones OR better coverage, faster data and no good phones????

for u people saying that a crippled Verizon phone is better than no phone at all; why would u spend $200+ on a cell phone when u r not getting the most out of it? if people on the other carriers paid the same price for your phone but can do twice as much on it, wouldn’t u be pissed? obviously, verizon is screwing the hell out of u guys.. go sprint!

@ Mike (post #33):
no offense, but if u only need a phone with e-mail, calendar, phone, contact management, stability and the right size… u might as well just get one of those free phones w/ activation and download a mobile e-mail client for non-smartphones (such as RemoMail)

I seriously doubt you can do twice as much for the same money, let’s not get carried away. I enjoy the network because I never drop calls and the reception is always clear. That is worth xtra dollars for me. I have GPS in my car and don’t need wifi. I find BB to be easy to use and it satisfies my phone requirements in an efficient way that I am comfortable with. I am sorry if I do not use the BB to its fullest potential, but of what I do use, I enjoy. That is worth $200+ to me.

sam, You ever try to use one of those silly email “clients” on a phone that isn’t a smart phone?? I’d rather try to swallow the stupid thing and hope I absorb the information. and not everyone has the availability of all the networks. just because one claims it’s the largest, doesn’t mean it works everywhere. some of us are stuck with the carrier we have, and are glad to get most, if not all of the features that may be available elsewhere

I went in Circuit City today and the Verizon guy told me that the Pearl would be coming to Verizon sometime in the fall. He said he didn’t know if it was the Pearl 1 or 2. I asked about the Curve and Samsung i760 and he said he didn’t know anything about either of those. Just figured I’d pass it on because in the past 2 weeks, everyone I’ve asked at Verizon has told me that there was no way they would ever be getting a Pearl.

I really hope they come out with red for it rght away!
Or changeable faceplates that would be so cool!
Im psyched about 3.5mm headphone jack and bluetooth stereo.
Hopefully tey will get some more supported formats for the media player as well.

How can you be sure that the blackberry pearl will be coming out for verizon wireless? I just want to be sure that it really is coming out and I don’t hold out till this november and then they don’t come out with it.

I called Verizon yesterday to ask about the Pearl again. The guy said that they have been given a list of all the phones and release dates for the fourth quarter but that he wasn’t allowed to give me any information. Based on the questions I asked, he said I should be looking for a big release around the end of the summer. I asked him what time frame he considered to be the “end of the summer” and he said that he lives in Arizona and it stops getting hot in Arizona around late October/early November. Could that be code for a release date?

I just spoke with my friend who is a salesman for Blackberry, there is no expected release date (and nothing in the works as of yet) but I would figure sometime next year (bc that’s about how long it took them to get the Pearl). At least we’re getting somewhere…

I would rather have a so called “crippled” Verizon phone than another carrier that drops calls or has no service when I need it. Those other carriers leave their phones unlocked so you have something to do while you have no service. I want reception first that is why I got a phone in the first place. If I wanted a phone that won’t make calls than I would have gone T-mobile, Sprint, AT&T one of the so called “competitors.” Verizon with the Pearl is a great match plus ill take EVDO over that GSM crap anyday. Verizon Wireless for life of until someone is better. Verizon has no competition and take more customers away from the others every single day.

I’m pretty ignorant with this stuff, but when everyone bitches about how Verizon “locks” features, what features exactly are being locked? In other words, what features does the T-Mobile and/or AT&T Pearl have that the Verizon doesn’t? I was actually going to switch carriers since I wanted this, but if it is really coming for Verizon in November I can wait, since almost everyone I know has Verizon. Also, does anyone know if the voice plan / data they offer for $79.99/mo. (450 minutes) involves internet and all that jazz? Thanks.

cas - You want an example of Verizon locking or crippling features? Here’s one: I have a Verizon 8830 Blackberry. It has GPS just like Sprint’s 8830, just like AT&T’s 8800, and just like TMO’s 8800. The GPS functionality inside the Verizon 8830 still works and uses battery power - Verizon had RIM disable the GPS functionality in software so the user can’t get to it. I have heard the justification for this was so Verizon could substitute its own VZ Navigator system at a monthly rate but was behind in its development of VZ Naviagator so the 8830 wound up with the default GPS in a functioning but useless state.
