T-Mobile’s Motorola RAZR V3 06 (RAZR 2?) and Motorola W490 dropping in September!

When it rains, it pours, right? Next up on T-Mobile chopping block is the Motorola W490 and a mysterious device known as the RAZR V3 06. First out the gate is the Moto W490, which is set to drop on September 24th. Motorola’s W-series has traditionally consisted of value-oriented handsets with a bit of fashion flair…sort of the stepchild of a peasant and KRZR…the W490 fits into those parameters quite nicely. Features-wise, it’s pretty bottom of the barrel. No camera, no Bluetooth, as far we can see, but it does have a music player and myFaves support. On the other hand, the styling is a bit spiffier than your standard bottom-feeder handset, so we’re not too mad. But next up is where we’re givin’ Moto mad props. The RAZR V3 06? This appears, on the surface, to be yet another iteration of Motorola’s oh-so-tired RAZR V3 line. On closer consideration, however, we have reason to believe that this might be the new Motorola RAZR 2, aka the V8. You know, the RAZR 2 we love? This is the only phone on the sheet we received without a specific drop date, and the spec sheet is incredibly vague with nary a reference to a camera, Bluetooth, or other standard V3 fare. Furthermore, T-Mobile would be out of their minds to drop another V3 variant as the rest of the civilized world gets their hands on the new RAZR 2. Our best guess, therefore, is that this is a mind game of sorts, designed to indicate an upcoming launch without letting the cat out of the bag, so to speak. It’s just an educated guess, so take it with a grain of salt. Click on for the "V3 06" spec sheet. Enjoy, dear readers!

UPDATE: It seems as if the RAZR 06 is just sadly a minor upgrade to the old RAZR. It adds EDGE to it, and that is about it.

Thanks, to everyone that sent this in!

Thanks, tmophonehome!

For all those concerned .. I just bought the T-mobile branded Razr2 V8 with 2GB of internal storage. Seller had about six of these on hand, not sure if he is still selling them. Anyway, great device.

It will be released October 15th and it will be black. Any v8s out there are Europe phones only and no one is selling it here yet unless it has been imported from Europe. T-mo stores don’t receive their stock until approx 12-48 hours prior to sell date and no crp store would sell it before or they will be fired.

And at a cost of $449?!?!?! That’s a bit pricey if you ask me. The 2 year contract extension is likely to be $299 or $250… damn.

i agree!! T-mobile is ALWAYS last on the COOL phones. a T-mobile salesman told me that they do have some phones first. I told him that is true, but that the phones they do get first, no one really cares about. i have been wanting to get the razr2 as soon as i found out about them. i have even gone into Verizon stores looking at their razr2. 3 reasons i may switch to Verizon, 1) they have the phone now!! 2)they have better nation wide coverage. 3) no sim card to worry about. i am getting tired of messing around with sim cards.

T-mobile is last on phones, but that can be a good thing because they wait for all the little recalls and things like that. And unless you’re extremely experienced with cell phone companies and how to back out of contracts, don’t go with Verizon, if you have to, try pre-paid first. The network they work on is constantly dropping calls. Do you like Sprint and Alltel service? If yes, cool, if not, it’s the same as Verizon. Also, something you may not know about Verizon, even if you have the nationwide plan, if you’re phone goes on roaming - guess what .69 per minute. And if you’re near the canadian border, you could possibly pick up canadian towers, then you get charged for international roaming. The thing about the cross-border towers is that you can pick up a tower from up to 50 miles on Verizon. So you’re basically SOL unless you’re careful about where you use your phone.

And so what if Verizon has the V9 already? The talk time for the battery is monsterous and they take the user interface (menu, camera, etc) and rape it to death so it’s unrecognizable.

And also, no SIM cards = higher setup stress.

All this coming from someone who used to work for Verizon, HORRIBLE service provider.

I went out on Oct. 1st to upgrade my phone as my contract was nearing an end with t-mobile and I wanted a new phone before continuing.

I looked at the krzr and the rizr and saw the newly released w490. After playing with it and seeing the features (some of which the t-mobile staff didnt even know the phone came with … i.e. voice dialing … I opted to get it.

It is a little bigger than the krzr but still smaller than the razr. has great voice quality, good speaker phone, 1.3 MP Camera with 8x zoom, my favs, mps player with expandable memory, the usual features beyond that.

While the keypad lacks some of the tactile feel it is better than the razr and is somewhat close to that of the rizr.

I think the phone as a whole is great, and it cant be beat for the value. A slim, jet black, motorola flip phone will never go out of style. Everyone that has seen my phone has commented on it being sexy.

I too JUST got the new w490 about… 2 hours ago. I played with it a little, and it does have great features. Better camera than I had on my last phone. Only thing is, I don’t know how to upload music to it. Do I need software or something? Whatever, it’s a great phone for a good price. Don’t read what those reviews say. It DOES have a camera and Bluetooth. Good phone, good price. Hence the reason I got it =]

I cant beleive you didnt wait till the 15th for the Razr2. Ive been waiting for this phone for almost 2 months and ill wait longer if i have to. Its pretty much the only good thing Tmobile has going for them right now or id would switch carriers. Kinda upset there gonna sell it for so much but w/e its worth it to have a good solid phone.

Thats crap. I called customer service and they have it, and she said that CORPORATE stores will have it. Maybe not 3rd party vendors… She told me and it’s 249.99 after $50 MIR for 2/yr contract and 299.99 after $50 MIR w/one year. Phone is 399.99 w/out contract and is available TODAY.

Well i went and bought this bad boy on the 15th at 9am. Phone cost me 314$ after taxes and with a 2/yr contract. Yes there is a mail in rebate for 50$ so it cost me about $264 After taxes. This phone is The shit. The front is a touch screen for the music player. Bluetooth music player, 2.0 Gig memory on it. This is by far the best phone for the Price. Included with the phone ( in the box) is an Adapter for all those people who have razr1 Car chargers that allows u to use the razr1 car charger on the razr2. So dont let Tmobile screw u into buying one. On top of that they include the USB cord for ur phone/computer to easily put all ur songs on ur phone. I put 175 songs on the phone and it still has 95% Free Space. Bottom line is this Phone is Boss! For the first time im pretty happy about blowing money a Phone. ~

I just got a w490 yesterday and it’s definitly a great phone. I’ve never owned a Motorola before this one, always had a Samsung, but it wasn’t hard to get used to at all.

The camera is great and it runs flawlessly and quick. No hang ups.
