T-Mobile launching BlackBerry Curve (8320) on September 24th

Well, isn’t this a glorious day. You begged, you pleaded with the T-Mobile gods, and now we finally have something concrete. It seems as if September 24th is the rumored launch date set in stone for one of the most anticipated BlackBerry devices to date — the BlackBerry Curve with WiFi + UMA (8320). We’ve got a string of other handsets we’re sifting through at moment from our oh-so-fabulous informants, but in the meantime, I guess we can all just "marinate" on this BlackBerry Curve launch date. Yeah, it’s golden. Hey T-Mobz, care to send us an embargoed unit? Thank ya’s

Thanks, tmophonehome!

I spoke with a T-Mobile store assistant manager the a couple days ago and he said the 24th for sure. I have absolutely no idea why the release would be delayed only 4 days. Also, he said all stores should have plenty to go around. No word on what colors will be initially available. I’ve seen pictures of both silver and gold devices, however 2 gold devices in person, as well as 1 on ebay…I’m not crazy about the gold, being a businessman, but my 8700 is on its last leg so I really don’t have a choice. I’ll keep my fingers, and toes, crossed for a silver/titanium device to come out and be in stock.

BWS: When the Pearl came out I ordered one of them online and the other by dialing 611 and talking to a CSR. Both of them were purchased just after midnight, Sept. 12, the date they went on sale.

Local stores either did not have them or ran out, soon after the release date.

So you might want to consider ordering via your phone.

I got the two Pearls via FedEx about three days after ordering.

I did not mind the wait inasmuch as many people were not able to get the Pearl until a few weeks after it came out.

The other cool thing when ordering via a CSR is that they just put the two phones on my monthly bill. It was a bit of a hit, but at least I got to float about 45 days before I paid it [Think it was about $450 additional, upgrade price for the two phones].

Hey, I have a sidekick 3 right now and my plan is about to end soon. I was just wondering if the BB Curve is better then the T-mobile Dash.
Does the Dash have GPS too?
Please get back @ me with your responses.

JoanBerry…. you mean the “Curve” not the Pearl, right?

If you mean the Curve, your $249 upgrade price is exactly what I speculated. Not to toot my own horn, but I will. :)

In terms of can hardly wait, I made a pic of the Curve my wallpaper on the PC. I do that with whatever hot new item I am waiting or looking for.

I have my Nokia 6086 listed on eBay, so I need the Curve so I can use the hotspot@home service.

With the sale of my Pearl and the Nokia 6086, I should come out even on upgrading [used Pearls in excellent condition are selling for about $150 now, the Nokia should fetch $100.]

That hotspot service is well worth it. I usually come close to my 1000 minutes each billing period.

Last billing cycle where I used the hotspot service a lot [during the day, where otherwise the minutes would have come out of my plan, for the month I used 290 of my plan minutes. Woot.

Sidenote: I might like going back to a QWERTY keyboard.

I went to check the mail and stopped at the T-Mo corporate store [meaning it's not an independent dealer/vendor].

Asked if he had the Curve and he pulled two out from the back. Was going to let me buy, but he said it was $400 for me because I had upgraded to the Pearl last Sept. So I passed and am resorting to arguing for a discount to $250 when I call T-Mo.

I guess $400 is not that much more than $250, but we shall see.

If I get mad enough I’ll just cancel the account, pay the $200 early term fee, then get the Curve for free through a vendor who gives free top-rated phones when signing up.

So the Curve will end up costing me $200 instead of $400. Don’t care about losing the phone number if that is what happens when early terminating [sales guy said if I cancel I lose my phone number, not sure if that is true].

Also see that the Curve is now on T-Mo site, but get an error message when upgrading. Must still be working on it, like other post said.

Well, I decided to hell with it, I wanted the Curve and did not want to risk them running out.

So I dialed 611 and ordered it with a 2 year contract extension, which gave me $110 off. I did not feel like hassling with them over getting it at the $250 upgrade price. Not worth $150 to talk for 1/2 hour begging and all.

Besides, if I sell my Pearl for $150 and the Nokia 6086 for $100 [likely since the bidding is getting there, with days to go till the auction end] that means I will be paying $150 for the Curve which is a good deal as far as I am concerned.

The CSR I ordered from said the full retail is $510. The upgrade I was entitled to, since I got the Pearl on upgrade in September 2006, was $110 off of that. So it cost me $400.

The CSR said they are getting lots of calls, as they have in the last week with people wanting the phone.

He said they have it in stock. [The Pearl ran out after about four days to a week on sale].

So don’t wait until the 24th [which is midnight Sunday night]. Dial 611 and order yours now. Or you can go into a store if one is close to you. It was just as easy for me to use 611 on a Saturday night. Besides the store was closed seeing how it is 10:30 now.

Guess I’ll end my posts in this thread since the topic is now moot. :)

    See you all.

P.s. They had the phone in titanium or gold. I told him that the gold was meant for a pimp. He was cracking up and said he was going to tell his co-workers. When he confirmed my order he said “You want the titanium and not the pimp colored model.” :)

I’m pretty sure the tmobile curve is SILVER…I was just in tmobile yesterday and the saleswoman showed me their “secret” promotional packet about the phone and all the pictures of the curve were in silver. She forgot she really wasn’t supposed to show it to anyone but I got the chance to look through it before she took it away…and I didn’t see any pictures of a gold curve. Pretty sure it is silver :) lets hope!

Anyone have an idea on how much the tmobile curve will retail for? Customer service said it won’t be posted on the website until Sunday night right at midnight…just curious

Read my post, the CSR told me it retails for $510.

I was entitled to a “current customer” price [that's what I call it] of $110 off that price. So I got it for $400.

AND JULIE, THERE IS A GOLD MODEL. See my post where I went into a T-Mo store and he brought out both a titanium [silver] AND a gold model.

Also, the CSR I ordered from Saturday night said he had two colors, gold or titanium.

Lastly, see T-Mo’s site, where gold or titanium are offered.

Query: Will they run out of the titanium first and only have gold to sell? ;)

I got one today for $250! I’m so excited! Retails for $449 and is $399 with the partial upgrade discount. Didn’t want to pay $399 so I called customer care and they reduced it to $250. It has to do with how long you’ve been a customer and I also I have my whole family switched to tmobile. Might work for others also.

T MO shows Gold and Titanium on my upgrade list on their site. I ordered the titanium and it was going to cost me $399.00, but after diplomatically mentioning that the I-phone costs that much now, they put me on with someone else who quickly discounted the Curve to $249.00. I have been with TMO 4 years now and asked them to take that into consideration. They won’t do it for everyone, but for those who can make a good case, and especially who have a history with TMO, the odds are better I think.

I was hoping I could get that dark gray and black model that BG is displaying. Is that a color that is coming out later?

    MichaelSF,

Wow! I was told it retailed for a much lower price around $450. After agreeing to a two year contract (don’t mind that since there are ways out of it without paying cancellation fee), my price including shipping and handling for a new 8320 was $349.29 and I get a mail in rebate for $50.00. I was never told about the $250.00 upgrade price! I would have fought for that since I currently use a Samsung SGH I got back in 2004 and have has since that time. Oh well at least I didn’t pay as much as I could have.

OlyPdd - When was your last phone purchase with T-Mo? You would be entitled to that $249 price if you have used your upgrade in 11 months [on a one year contract], or 22 months [on a two year contract], that is, on both, since your last phone purchase.

If you got it anyway, despite the above, good job.

As I said, I did not feel like going back and forth over the $150 price difference. It was late and I just wanted to get the Curve on order. ;)

I last upgraded a year ago when I purchased the Pearl. I think the combination of my time with TMO, my comments, especially when I brought up the I Phone, and my overall courtesy.

Also the fact that a rep the previous day told me that when the Curve is released, I should be able to see an additional $100.00 discount for being with TMO for so long. Then a rep the day of purchase told me I would see the additional discount more easily at a retail store. After speaking to the store (by phone) they told me that TMO customer care is more able to give me the additional discounts.

So overall, given the run around, and all other factors, the I-Phone comment was the straw that broke the camels back. So yes, I got the discount anyway, and I have to say that this is the kind of thing that TMO has always done, thus I am still with their service.

Well I was courteous and only slightly expressed concern about getting the $110 discount and paying $400, instead of the $250 upgrade price.

I know I could have pressed it, mentioned all the points you raised and possibly even called back to get a different CSR or talk to a supervisor.

But it was late, I had a bad sore throat and when I saw that I could get the phone by dialing 611 at 10:30 pm on the 22nd [as opposed to the 24th, plus the website ordering was not working], I discovered that ultimately I did not care, the $110 discount was good enough to assure getting the phone [I need it for my hotspot at home service inasmuch as my Nokia 6086 sucks compared to my Pearl].

Besides, $400 is still far less than the $500 I paid in year 2000 for a Motorola StarTac, where the only feature at the time was that it the “world’s smallest cell phone.” I have a StarTac sitting on a shelf to remind me how far we have come. :)

You are right about T-Mo. On blogs and forums I have always posted positive reviews of their customer service and even said I would pay higher rates just to keep getting their great support and custo service.
