T-Mobile launching BlackBerry Curve (8320) on September 24th

Well, isn’t this a glorious day. You begged, you pleaded with the T-Mobile gods, and now we finally have something concrete. It seems as if September 24th is the rumored launch date set in stone for one of the most anticipated BlackBerry devices to date — the BlackBerry Curve with WiFi + UMA (8320). We’ve got a string of other handsets we’re sifting through at moment from our oh-so-fabulous informants, but in the meantime, I guess we can all just "marinate" on this BlackBerry Curve launch date. Yeah, it’s golden. Hey T-Mobz, care to send us an embargoed unit? Thank ya’s
Thanks, tmophonehome!

Hey BGR, I are we going to be getting release dates and carriers on the other BB’s as well?

Great news other than the color. I hope that is only one of the ones that will be available, or T-Mobile made a very large mistake. Gold will be the preferred color of the few, not the many.

Thank god! I guess I won’t be making the jump to att. I can finally upgrade my tired pearl and hopefully get some hotspot@home goodness. Praise the tmo gods!!!

Insurance would send you a 8800 depending on the stock. Asurion loads up on phones.

The colour is supposed to be “titanium” and not gold, at least according to the slides leaked a few days ago. The hero shot (or 3/4 view, like above) appears gold, but the others appear to have a more silver-metallic look to them. Probably just lighting and perspective.

Now do I get this or wait for the Pearl 2 to launch on TMO? Just in time for my birthday present to myself.

I really hope that it’s not gold. Been waiting for T-mobile to come out with the Curve for months. If it’s gold, I would seriously consider going to AT&T, on color alone. Or maybe buying a replacement housing. Hopefully it’s just a bad picture…

bbrim, in response to your comment, you can still get an 8320 though they don’t allow cams in your client offices. in a few weeks time after release there will be a step-by-step guide for camera removal (most likely to be found on blackberryforum.com). I have seen it done with the pearl. the empty spot may not be the prettiest, but it will allow you to get the 8320.

UMA? Pricing?
I believe UMA is what makes this phone work with T-mobile@home. Correct me if am wrong.

what does employee phones mean? does that mean that there is some kind of discount available with a corporate plan?
what abt upgradable? does that mean you can get discount pricing even if you’re in a contract?

Yes, it’s UMA. Pricing is already out there - http://tinyurl.com/38owwn.
Also, they give out Linksys routers to use UMA - http://tinyurl.com/2jwkfu but you can use any A, B or G router with the 8320. The Linksys is just optimized to give maximum battery life.

Any word on price yet? They want 349 for the 8800 which is not competitive with other carriers.

My big question is this:
How does Wifi work as far as actually being able to send and recieve calls and texts? Where i work, I get no Tmobile or AT&T service at all, however Verizon works fine. If I had a tmobile blackberry w/ WiFi, and it could get a WiFi signal in my building, would that allow me to make and recieve calls where I was previously unable to?

I am soooo excited about this. I have been praying for this annoucement. It has been very difficult to wait for this news in light of the iphone and unlocked curves. However, that gold color is absolutely awful. I hope that it is NOT a bling color.

If Tmo sends a curve to BG can I have it after you finish playing with it please.

It says Wifi, but it does not mention UMA or Hotspot@Home…so are we sure it offers it? I mean, it could offer WiFi, but not UMA over that WiFi.
That first link is dead. I was talking about device pricing, not UMA/H@H pricing, which I know is already out.
