Palm “recalls” recent Treo 700 updates
Here’s a bit of disappointing news. It seems that Palm has removed the recent Treo 700p and Treo 700w/wx updates from their site. Attempting to access them now brings up the following error message:
We have taken down the Verizon Wireless Treo 700p and 700w/wx updaters as a result of increasing customer reports of network connectivity issues following the updates. We are currently investigating the issue and will re-post as soon as they become available.
The reported error displays "Error 3000 – Data network is not available" when attempting to connect to the data network. This error does not affect your device or personal data in any other way. Thank you for your patience.
Yipes. As frustrating as this might be for anyone looking to update their handsets, the situation is worse for anyone that already ran the update and is encountering these network connectivity issues. Anyone here take the plunge? Any way of downgrading? Sucks to be Palm…

I upgraded my 700w, but have not had any connectivity issues as yet.

Well considering that the upgrade that was pulled was for Verizon and TWO separate OSes. I think i sucks to be Verizon but nice try on the trolling attempt.
I have this problem, and so far (one month into it) Verizon is no help at all. After a hard reset, wiping the device clean, did no good, they sent me a refurbed phone, which had the *same update* already installed. Lo and behold, same problem, as the update is in some way incompatible w/ Verizon’s data connectivity. Connectivity is v. spotty. Such a pain! I called again today, and all they will offer is a windows version of the treo, with a 22 month contract extension! No thanks! I have another call in, but am really irritated now. Unfortunately Verizon is the best for actual cell service where I live and visit, so I’d rather not switch carriers, but if it comes to that, I guess I will.
I made one of my employees do the upgrade first before I tried it…it bricked his phone and VZW had to give him a replacement.
Why is Palm still trying? Shouldn’t they just go O.B. already? GIVE IT UP PALM.
I have all 3 700w upgraded and all have the same problem!!!! I got 2 two replacements and still have the same problem after doing both soft and hard resets. I am thinking about the iPhone… Is Verizon’s network REALLY better than AT&T????
I applied the update successfully, and did not see any immediate issues. However I did begin to see intermittent network connectivity issues. About 1 out of 3 times the phone fails to connect to the internet on the first try.
i did the update on the 700p…
not only did my phone not die/burst into flames/lose all connectivity… it fixed the ridiculous texting bug!!! (vzw’s notification of the reciving party’s handset reciving the text would freeze the phone for anywhere between 10-90 seconds)
Well, today I resolved my problem, in a way. I got VZ to change the date I can get a new phone fom 4/09 to today, with a 50 dollar new in two credit. Now I’ll just wait for the new Pearl to come out. Can’t be soon enough!
I put this update on my phone and its horrible !!! do not install this, verizon is sending me a new phone, probably has the update on it also, GRRRRR
I am buying the 700 wx with verizon..ive been reading the posted comments. this will be my 1st palm treo..any advice on which 1 is better?
