Palm Foleo details a-plenty

Despite our relative ambivalence towards Palm’s upcoming Foleo, we imagine that someone must be interested in the damn thing. Today Palm, during a presentation to the LinuxWorld conference, revealed some details about the product, and we can’t say it raised our level of enthusiasm. The machine runs on a 416 MHz Intel/Marvell PXA27x processor and sports a Marathon 2700G graphics card. The Foleo will have 256MB of non-volatile flash memory, and 128MB of RAM for general application use. A CompactFlash slot will allow for increased storage to the tune of 4GB, and an SD slot provides for even more memory card capacity. Why not just build a bit more into the box? Who knows…Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are standard fare, and a USB port will allow you to connect peripherals including external hard drives that conform to the mass storage profile. No one knows exactly when the thing will drop, but we’re guessing sometime around the end of August or early September. Anyone still awake?

If they could do it for $250, people would be interested, including me. I can get a whole cheapo laptop at Fry’s for $400…

What I don’t understand about this damned thing is there whole strategy! In the end, this is an underpowered, under-storaged (forgive my English language abuse there) LAPTOP running Linux.

The only thing it really does is sync up with your Treo.

Hey Palm, 5 bucks says that some savvy Linux hacker can write a program that will do the exact same thing, only on ANY laptop. Hell, I’ll even give them a name: Fooleo Treo Sync.

Yeah, I don’t understand why people (both of them) are interested in this outdated shit….

Come on Palm, pull your head out of your ass and do something that actually is ahead of others. This is so behind the times it’s ridiculous!
