Nokia N95 about to hit the US of A’s pretty soon? Back in black, baby!
Well well well….Nokia has done it again. While the European version of the N95 has been available here in the States for a while only in Nokia’s retail stores, we haven’t been able to utilize the device’s 3G radios, thanks to a lack of 850/1900 WCDMA band support. Hearing the calls of S60 fanboys everywhere, the company has decided to release a version of their flagship handset that will be compatible with AT&T UMTS/HSDPA network. Sweet! The device is more or less the same as the Euro-version, although there are a couple of significant differences. The American Nokia N95 will sport a higher capacity battery. The new 1200 mAh cell will give the device a much needed boost in run-time. It will come with a 1GB microSD card, and the back case of the phone is now black. That’s all folks. We’re not sure exactly when this is set to drop, but you best believe there’ll be some significant demand once it reaches store shelves. Kudos, Nokia. Hit the jump for the full brochure.

So I will cost the same?? Maybe less if sold with a contract? Did I miss that or is it obvious.

now thats a great phone. has everything except qwerty. Good idea Nokia, spend some time getting your North American PDAs out while the others are struggling to catch up.
Although the Kaiser still has this beat IMO. And the mythical “papa bear” could have had them all beat but sadly its been locked away in Canada for fear that it would hurt the life-span of the line.

This will probably be released in the nokia flagship stores and nokiausa.com, Cingular has previously rejected nokia’s “higher-end” devices because they don’t believe that theres a wide market for them. This has happened to the nokia 7610, and N80 (thats 2 that i can list off the top of my head but i’m sure more devices weren’t accepted.) So thats why i don’t believe you will be able to find it sold through ATT.
Also Tmobile’s UMTS frequency is gonna be 1700 uplink and 2100 downlink while Europe’s frequency is 1900 uplink 2100 downlink so don’t expect to buy european phones and have their UMTS work in USA. ATT’s frequency is 850up 1900down so its not going to work with tmobile usa.
WIth all that said, nokia should of made their devices with US UMTS capable a long time ago! I use a HTC Hermes now and will upgrade to the Kaiser when its released cuz i’ve come too attached to windows mobile, but my brother has the N95 which he bought 3 weeks ago when he was overseas.. i’d assume he’s going to sell it and get this one when its released.
The last thing thats left is video calling which cingular needs to do ASAP!

the only thing that doesnt make this is a super phone (after owning a device) is the lack of a qwerty keyboard, push email, and the battery life (it came to a point that i charged 2x’s daily). hopefully with this new update itll solve the latter.
as for it not working on tmo? i have tmo and i used the n95 for some time.
even so, id like to pick up a newer version. keep us updated who gets it!

hi erica,
you say your n95 is working with tmobile?
I have tmobile and was considering getting a nokia n95 instead of the iPhone. Did you get the phone through tmo?
Is everything working?
Did you have to jump some hoops to
get it working right?
Cheers
