HTC Kaiser = AT&T Tilt?
CrunchGear seems to think so, and we’re inclined to agree. It’s a natural nickname, given the HTC Kaiser’s trademark tilt-up keyboard configuration. There’s still no word on exactly when we might be able to expect this baby to drop on the former Cingular, but given the recent FCC filing, coupled with the ramp up in buzz level, we’d wager to guess that this thing will be showing up sooner than later. The phone will replace AT&T’s current 8525/TyTN offering, and will most likely show up on store shelves by the end of August/beginning of September. Tilt, Curve, Blade, Slide, Stripe….we’re all for simple branding, guys, but this is getting a little bit absurd.

I actually think that would be the perfect name for the Kaiser, or you know how about KAISER?!?

Last weekend, I visited the new flagship AT&T Experience store in Atlanta, specifically to ask about the 8925. The sales guy there told me they had recently met with a HTC rep who briefed them on the phone. The sales guy also said they were expecting them by the end of August.
Since then, I’ve visited a couple of lesser AT&T stores — none of the sales guys there even knew what the 8925/Kaiser was.

this phone has about 13 other aliases. TyTn II, Kaiser, Tilt, plus all the various service provider monikers. How about less deciding about what to call it and more putting it on shelves.

Americans would associate “Kaiser” with either Kaiser Wilhelm or Kaiser Permanente, neither of which are particularly good branding.

Los318 you beat me to that one. As for the tilt I prefer Kraizer much better sounding name.

This has my name written all over it. Especially the vga camera on the face for video chatting. This is what a full pda should be, atleast until Boy Genius reviews it.

any truth to the rumor that they are “rubberizing” the back of the Tilt similar to the Dash?

If this device is supposed to be released at the beginning of September, what effect will the ban imposed on Qualcomm chips have on this? Any word on how AT&T will get around this ban?

It is looking like a Mid-September release guys.

Hi! I am new to the PDA world, and like many others, am eagerly awaiting this device. My question is, what are the advantages of buying an unlocked version, versus the branded, I am an at&t/cingular customer. If I purchased unbranded would I be able to use the GPS feature without paying at&t’s monthly service fees and would I be able to use the voice feature without the AT&T voice plan. And whatever other feature you guys may know about that at the moment I may have missed. Thanks in advance.

I’m surprised that no-one else is complaining that this is much more than the iphone. While the iphone is $600 and this is $500, what made the iphone attractive is cingular/at&ts generous plan that gives you talk and unlimited data for only $60 per month. On the other hand, as far as I know, this data plan isn’t available for other phones such as the tilt, and instead you need to pay $40 + $45 for voice and unlimited data, making it $85 per month. Over the course of 2 years, this adds up to quite a bit more expensive.

with AT&T’s PDA Personal Max you can get unlimited data and 1500 text for 39.99 that is as much or 5 bucks more than the iphone if u get 1500 messages. Since the GPS is already fully in the phone does anyone know if u have to pay at&t for it. For instance does it cost anything to use GPS on an 8800?

iphone gets better plans because of apple’s deal with at&t, they wont change their pda rates to hurt the iphone.
I have 8800 and no charges for using GPS.
Niles, only benefit would be you could use a Tmobile sim card in the Tilt or any other GSM i guess. But it will only use AT&T’s 3G network so limited benefits domestically to getting an unlocked one.

ATT dosnt tell anybody in the sales field of new phone releases. Evedently the guy you were talking to was on up in the company. Generally your standard sales reps only find out when they get promo material or maybe an email a week or so before the phone releases.
