China attempting to cure Internet addiction through summer camp

If you’re between the ages of 14 and 22, are addicted to video games and porn…oh, and are Chinese, some pretty interesting legislation could be coming your way. According to China Daily, a new summer camp for that age group is being tested with 40 youngsters in an attempt to rid them of their addiction. The treatment will be a softer version of the Addiction Treatment Centre in Beijing, which utilizes military drills. But their aim is to treat many of the same symptoms, including depression, fear, unwillingness to interact with others, panic and agitation. The Chinese government has been thrown into panic mode lately, with high-profile internet crimes taking center stage, causing them to ban new Internet cafes and restrict minors from entering current ones with volunteer groups that patrol the streets. In other words, it’s like the Meth problem we have here in the States…only they get to keep their teeth.

I think this is not that bad, alot of kids are getting more and more addicted to their computers and video games, nothing wrong with getting them away from that for awhile.
Summer camp was always a great time for me, and cant see how it wouldnt help some of these kids.

someone should have sent galvatron to one, things might have ended up differently.

My parents use to do the same in the summer but back then it was just for TV and a few Sega or Nintendo games. How times have changed… also I am quite positive I wanted to go to camp so not too much of an obligation.

yeah in china human and civil rights don”t apply. This is clearly an attempt to kill the desire to see the otside of the great firewall of china. you ca’t really legislate parenting

I dunno… when I see “Summer Camp” combined with “China”, I suspect that it looks a lot more like “Cool Hand Luke” than “Daddy Day Camp”.

I believe that past governments in China referred to this process as “re-education”.
