BlackBerry 8820 launches on Orange in Spain

Well looky here…RIM has gone ahead and dropped its Wi-Fi equipped BlackBerry 8820 on Spanish soil. Showing up on the Orange network, the BlackBerry 8820 is pretty much as expected, sporting Wi-Fi in addition to quad-band GSM coverage, EDGE data connection, and built in GPS — pretty much par for the course by now. Of interest, however, is that the device does include UMA support out of the box. Its intended for use on Orange’s Spanish UMA network, called “Unico Empresas," but certainly indicates that T-Mobile@Home compatibility isn’t too far from our grasp. Hit the link for the full press release, and could someone please get on the phone with AT&T? We want this one ASAP!

Galvatron I follow chip companies very carefully, Atheros is not in the 8820 the wifi chip is most likely Marvell’s which has won the wifi in the Apple iPhone.

I did and they played the old “we have no info” trick. And yes I even talked to the (guy next to them) supervisor. But if you guys got my “send us tips mail” I told you all the corporate store here had to say. New blackjack in March, Helio Ocean style device (8925?), and nothing on the kaiser/8925/tilt/some other name. I’m sure it might be soon just like how we all want the Moto Q9h. Although you could spare the phone to somebody who loves those? (me)

If this would just make it to the US before the Motorola Q9h (doubtful), I’d totally buy it.

I’ve been leaning towards a BlackBerry for quite some time now, but I might be better off getting the Moto Q9h.

I suppose I’ll simply have to play around with a 8800 when I test run the Q9h. :-/
