HTC Advantage now available from Comp USA and Amazon
This moment was bound to come, but we’re still in a bit of shock. HTC has announced that the HTC Advantage (X7501) is now available through CompUSA online retail channels, physical stores, as well as through Amazon.com. Retailing for a cool $899, this Pocket PC/UMPC/Everything device has finally hit American shores after widespread European availability. It’s worth noting, however, that it’s right on schedule with HTC’s announced launch frame. Nice job, guys! The device’s specs are as expected, with the Advantage sporting tri-band HSDPA/UMTS radios, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and more. The physical specs include a 5-inch VGA touch display, 8 GB hard drive, 256 MB of ROM, 128 MB of RAM, miniSD slot, 3 megapixel camera, HTC’s patented VueFLO, and a full sized 3.5mmm headphone jack. If you can handle the size, this thing is, without a doubt, the dopest Windows Mobile device on the market. All this craziness is running atop Windows Mobile 6 and a 624 MHz processor. Hit the link for more details, but be warned…you might find a $899 charge on your credit card before too long. Check out the full press release after the jump!

I want one…. Now how will the data connection work? Will we have to use our sim card or use a new one? I might just consider buying one but I want to know how the other (phone calls or mobile data) work? I have been looking at this as an option instead of a UMPC (even laptop).

It’s been available at CompUSA for over a month already. Some even still had pre-prod software.
Amazon’s been selling it unlocked for $850 since the beginning of summer.

If I could find any possible justification I would buy it, but I can’t. But I still like it.

I ordered mine from Amazon within a few days of it being available. It should ship in the next week. It’s getting great press as a UMPC/phone combo. Can’t wait to get my hands on it!

That’s one of the things I’ll have to work out if I can, but I can’t do it until I get the device. There’s a big thread on cases and carrying at xdadevelopers.com. I can say that I’ll probably use two phones. Since this is an unlocked phone, I’ll use it most of the time (work, etc.). When I’m just going out with friends, I’ll use whatever small cell phone I get from my carrier that easily fits in my pocket. That way I’ve got the best of both worlds.
You’re right though, this is an issue.

Looks like the “Advantage” would be a nice in-car installation. I assume it supports voice dial.
Guess it’s a decision of a real laptop with Vista, or a UMPC with Windows Mobile… decisions, decisions.

Well folks, if you wait till the end of Jan. 08, you may be able to pick up this gadget for around $600.00. That’s what some people in Fla. are getting them for. It all depends when they start their panic sales, before they close down the stores. Right now in NH, they were selling them for $899.99 minus 20% = $719.99. And of course, by mail order they are selling them at full price. The odds are that they will soon drop down the price by 30%
CompUSA is closing down all their retail stores, and will only do business via the Internet from now-on.
