iPhone unlocking for the strong at heart
As the quest to unlock the iPhone continues, interested parties are going to incredible lengths to free the device from AT&T’s clutches. While not a exercise for the faint at heart, some determined hackers have engineered a process by which iPhone owners can use non-AT&T service. The process allows you to extract IMSI and ICCID data from your AT&T SIM, and merge it with the data from another operator SIM card, creating a so-called "SuperSim". Once merged, the SIM strips the phone of its allegiance to AT&T, allowing you to connect to the network of your choosing. Very dope! Data functionality is not clear at this point with some users saying it works, and some saying it doesn’t. If you’re interested in taking the plunge, be warned that this is a pretty labor intensive process, requires some specialized equipment, and is most probably highly illegal. That being said, if you’re down, don’t hesitate to report back with your experiences.

Damnit, I’m sorry but I think people who want the iPhone should sign up for AT&T. I mean give it a break people. I’m glad they opened the iPhone up for 3rd party applications and so on but I hope AT&T or Apple fixes this. Add iChat too
too much work for very little reward. I mean really, i have no problem with att, no more than any other carrier. Its not like i can get a better price on data and voice, (no tmo in my area).
If they could find a way to make money then maybe but thats not going to happen. other than that i think the whole thing is a waste of time, other than to give apple some extra free publicity.
Well congratulations to whomever opened this thing up for different services nice job. many props.
I haven’t seen this question asked anywhere so I will pose it here:
To the iPhone owners: Have you actually called up at&t and asked for the (Subsidy) unlock code? What do they tell you?
My understanding is that at&t branded phones are locked but at&t will unlock them if requested.
Companies by now should know that they should never make a phone just an exclusive… it brings people together to make sure they can use it in other networks. Then again this phone isn’t the product of a regular phone manufacturer.
I don’t see why this is illegal. The US copyright office clarified that subsidy locks were not protected by the DMCA because they protected a business model not a work of copyright. All’s fair in love, war and unlocking phones.
lol keep on hacking and an phreaking guys.
has it oucuredto anybody that att is limited to the US and most of the haces ar performed in Norway Australia New zealnd? hello carrier an aple loyalist get a clue
yeah eropean carriers get that in erope the cellular rindustry alot differnt. from what ive seen on thos sites thers no 2 year contract and device sbsidization. which means service and custmer care an not bending over subscribers overtly. somting wich att, verizon, sprint, altel, cricket, fail misrably at.
Well people overseas do alot more prepaid than we do here, they are not locked to contracts..
They are free to switch to whoever they feel like, its al off the same towers.
actully thers multiple eropean carriers
tmo uk,orange,o2,tim.vodaphone but they all use GSM an a littl UMTSbu ALL HSDPA
i dont think apple cares at all about the hacks. They have done nothing about people hacking the appletvs, its good for business – hackers buy them and it keeps their products in the news longer.
att is the one who should be upset with the hacks.
they lose more on monthly service, apple does get a small portion of the monthly service but i think they are not out to stop any hacks.
gal, im a apple fan and dont have nay problem with the hacks. if they allow them to be used in europe then great, just show the world wide popularity.
The iphone is a cool device and that’s where it ends. Its not a productive device. Takes me almost twice to three times as long to type on it. Its technology that has been around and apple? All they did was sign a contract with the people that developed the touch screen idea. Wow so amazing. Anyone could have done that and then programmed the OS. Apple is a company that survived and is surviving by severely ripping off their customers off. Are we all into making money? Yes obviously. But let’s be serious, subsidize the god damn gay.phone and be realistic. You can’t put insurance on it. That makes sense…. Let me spend $600 (when it cost about $249 to make) and walk out of the store and happen to drop it get guess what I have to spend another $600. That’s att being cheap. But regardless its a very cool phone…… For kids.
google iFuntastic. gives a complete directory of iPhone internal files, and lets you put ringtones on, change icon order, etc. (only works on intel-based macs)
I’m honestly glad people found out how to hack it.
AT&T DOES NOT offer its services to where I live. Everytime we call, they tell us that, since we’re practically in the middle of two large counties.
