Epson’s home theater in a box

It’s always frustrating to set up a brand new rig of home theater gear and realize you’ve forgetten that one part or cord that you need for the thing to really get humming. Epson feels like they have a solution to the problem. Called Ensemble, it packs a 100-inch retractable screen, 5.1 audio, an AV controller with dual HDMI inputs and 1080p upconversion, and a built-in progressive scan controller. It also comes with everything you need to plug in, mount, and hide all the components. It’s due out in November, and only then will it be determined if the audio and video are as attractive as the concept. Look for packages to run $5,000 (720p) and $7,000 (1080p).

The projetors for these kits are the Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 1080, as well as the 720 model from what I am told. I juts bought the 1080p model last week and it’s freakin amazing. I have a 130-inch image in my bonus room theater. If Epson puts audio quality in the box to match the video quality (and from the price it looks like they will), this will be an amazing kit.

Epson makes printers, not toasters, and the price isn’t too bad I mean it could be a thousand or so too high but for 1080 on a 100 inch? Damn.
