BlackBerry Powerstation: Where art thou?

Is it just us here, or is the BlackBerry Powerstation (the one friggin’ accessory that actually makes use of those power contacts) never ever shipping? Yeah, we know the one for the BlackBerry Pearl is available but whatevs…We want the BlackBerry 8800 and BlackBerry Curve one damn it! Classify it as vaporware for now since we’ve never seen one live and up close, and the availability date keeps being pushed back. Anyone out there got one?

That’s how it was with the Leather Swivel Holsters for the 8700 series as well! Ship date kept changing throughout the entire Fall 2006 season!

I got one for the curve from tessco a couple weeks ago. It’s a great accessory and I don’t have to keep looking for my cables any more! It also charges the 655 headset simultaneously.

What is the advantage of this. What is wrong with the charging cable. Looks like another thing to clutter up my desk.

the advantage is 1) it simultaneously charges a 2nd battery & 2) your charging cable wont fall to the floor, its much quicker to just drop it in

If delays in getting the PowerStation from RIM mean a fast drop date for the BlackBerry 9XXX, I will give them a pass on this one.

I have the Blackberry Curve power station and I am not impressed. For starters, I feel like a fool for shelling out 99 bucks for this piece of crap. Here is why it is truly a piece of crap: the blue tooth earpiece sits in a housing so that it shares a charge with the phone, and it has a housing to charge a spare battery, but the phone does not fit snuggly into its housing. This makes you double check to make sure the power leads are connected in the cradle. You cannot use the usb connection from the computer to sync the phone the phone while charging the spare battery, and earpiece at the same time. You have to use the 110 volt from electricity to charge everything and connect the usb to the phone to sync at the same time. Talk about power redundancy. I recommend to anyone not to buy the damn thing unless you just want your phone to look pretty at your desk.

Maybe I’m missing something obvious here, but what’s the incremental function of this “powerstation?” The device comes with an USB cord in the box, which makes it charge from the PC, and it also comes with a regular wall plug for when you’re not at your PC. So why would anyone need a “powerstation?”

It’s supposed to be a 3 in 1 solution for charging your phone, headset, and an extra battery. Less wire clutter if you so desire.
