BlackBerry 8310 is the “Papa Bear” and the BlackBerry Pearl 2 (Comet) goes to AT&T
Our beloved "Papa Bear" BlackBerry…it’s great to finally see you, but there’s one problem — we thought you’d have GPS and WiFi — what do you mean, no? Well, here’s the deal BlackBerry fiends. According to one of our very friendly RIM informants, the BlackBerry 83xx (Papa Bear) is in fact the BlackBerry 8310 and will just have GPS. As it turns out, there simply wasn’t enough space to fit both in the current case design, and frankly who could blame them. The BlackBerry Curve is the smallest full QWERTY BlackBerry, and a staff favorite here at BGR. We are sooo not done, though! Who’d have thunk that AT&T would get first dibs on the BlackBerry Pearl 2 (Comet)? Release date is still looking like the 1st of second week in September, and AT&T should be the lead carrier. They’ve got like 8 different colors for it! We also heard T-Mobile will be getting new Pearl colors too. I don’t care if you’re in a meeting at a Fortune 500 company, or taking care of Diddy’s electronic assistant search, put them ’Berrys down and yell "We love you BGR BlackBerry informant!" as loud as you can. Feel better? We do too.
Will ATT still put out my beloved 8820 soon?
Well how shocking!! New Berry, Motos iphones,heck while you are at it give them the G phone Also.
And yet again Verizon customers get SCREWED…I had held out some hope that one of these two Komet or Curve w/ GPS might make it onto VZW by Septmeber, but now…just kill me, its not bad enough that it is 98 degrees today in Jersey, now this….
OK WHO CARES……JUST ONE “F-ING” QUESTION EVERYONE JUST WANTS TO KNOW, IS WHEN THE WI-FI,GPS, AND CAMERA VERSION IS COMING OUT. NO ONE GIVES A “F” ABOUT THESE HALF WAY THERE OPTIONS. CAN YOU ANSWER THAT QUESTION? WELL?

Oh P.S: Why do you think they would actually come out with WiFi berry’s? I know they have them but besides surfing the browser, which while I loved berry’s is getting a little long in the tooth. What is it good for? I think GPS in a Curve is halfway decent though. They really are beating consumers in the head with the “halfway there” options as stated above..

Well I am kind of sad for being able to get a wifi and gps berry (maybe go to htc). I like berries but the GPS and wifi combo would be better. I am curious now when the 8310 will hit american shores, unless it already has? Does the comet come with everything? Or will it be lacking a feature?
The only question is will they be 3G?

they keep up with their BS strategy of only putting out scaled down models of their phones. such BS, and NOKIA will continue to be the innovator in the wireless industry, that and apple i guess.
Im a happy BB user but am fed up with their, just wait we will have one with all the features approach. The technology is there just quit screwing your customers and release it. -the case isnt big enough, thats pathetic, either incompetent designers or they dont care to stay competitive with new phones.
Oh all you poor babies, try having to stay with Verizon and watching the entire BB world pass you. I would take any of the new offerings, so stop your moaning, it could always be worse…
BG – any VZW news to report?
c’mon, you know as a kid you loved having a compass. Even tho you can pretty much find your way without it, its still cool to have. Plus turn by turn is cool when you’re driving.
yes it could be worse. You could be stuck with Alltel as you best carrier and only have the option of the 8703e
As far as I am concerded VZW only has the 8703e as well. That world phone has a key board for 3yr old fingers. And the upgrade is not enough to warrent making a switch. I do all my business in the states, so even less attraction with world phone feature.

Ok, I can feel sorry for the Verizon people because I am one of them and they take forever to release anything, but I am tired of T-mobile and At&t customers crying about something being released for the other ones network…….. unlike with verizon you can buy any phone that works on those gsm bands and just pop the sim card in….. so if the pearl 2 or 8310 is coming out on at&t spend the extra $200 and go buy an unlocked one and pop the sim card into it, this is an option that those of us on verizon do not have so quit whining!
not alot of positive reaction to this, sounds like both Verizon and Sprint people get screwed again. And after 2 of “testing” wifi with the BB, RIM still cannot put out the devices.
Nokia, looking better and better. n82 or n81 would be nice, how about a REVIEW OF THE N82 or N81 BG?

First, any new BB/RIM product is great news, especially the new Pearl. Second, VZW is a joke, with MS-like practices, and overpriced plans and rates. Third, ATT must be paying a lot of bucks for these initial releases, but the bottom line is that WSP’s don’t make phones. IF it is true that there is not enough room for both the WiFi and the GPS, then the previous BGR news was bad; it was said that the device was testing in Euro market. Either way, I don’t mind waiting for the bugs to be worked out, and then use it on my network!!

Again, thanks for the 411! Always appreciated. I’m with ATT and at this point I’m happy that I am. I’m still using the 7100 and my contract has been up for a few months. I believe I’ll be getting one of these phones.
BG, are we still looking at the same specs for the Comet as previously posted a little while back? I’d like to see what the new Pearl looks like before making my choice.
I’m sure the 3G BBs will be here in 2008. Until then, I’d be happy with the 8310 or Comet.
