Please join me in a silent prayer for my iPhone…
I completely destroyed my iPhone. Like, totally. Thanks to the good folks at cnn.cn, I ordered a black back cover to try and pull off the tedious task of switching it out. (By the way, does anyone think that the black battery cover might show itself in the European version? The cover looks completely OEM.) Little did I know, Apple is smarter than the average phone manufacturer and the exceedingly well build quality hurt me in the end. As you can see from the pictures below, the back cover has side rails inside it — but they are actually glued on! In addition, the volume up and down buttons, silent switch, and lock button are all screwed in. Those came out fine along with the headset jack, but the side rails are where it got really tricky. Apple used a blue type of glue that I have never seen before, and I got excited and didn’t properly dissolve the glue. So sad. Everything else on the iPhone is fine. If you’re up for trying this yourself, all pieces of the puzzle are included and I have no problem giving this away. One man’s downfall can be another’s gold, I guess. Hit us in the comments if you want a shot at becoming the official BGR iPhone repairman! Winner must post pictures of the switch process to further embarrass me…
UPDATE: Great. iPhone activations are down for the count at this moment…

I’ll Try
I’ll give it a shot. I love putting stuff together.
This is mine, Im gonna fix it up and bling it out to the max pack!!!

Wow the iPhone is bigger than I thought. Lotsa folks coming out of the woodworks.

Let’s see if I can screw it up anymore than it already is.
BG: I will gladly try to repair the phone.. adn IF I fail, I will let you know and you can repost, and I’ll send it to the next person to give it a rip.. after all, a solution to the problem is what we’re all here for anyways.

well.. not guaranteeing anything but i have pretty much fixed everything i ever broke and i realize there are already a billion comments but its worth a shot right?
I’ve dismantled and re put together or replaced parts of the following:
-in trying to install a back up sensor and illuminated door sills in my 2006 Chrylser Crossfire, i removed one seats, dismantled the drivers door panel, and entirely dismantled the tailgate + drilled holes into the rear bumper
-my ps3 in a failed quest to add more RAM
-countless computers: both desktops and laptops
-swapped multiple iPod harddrives
-installed a second DVD drive in my Volvo XC90 to add auxiliary inputs to the factory navigation screen, this entailed dismantling a good part of the dash and removing three rows of seats to get a power cable to the battery which is in the miniscule area behind the third row
all of those things work perfectly now
I can’t make you any promises but I can give it my best shot
BG,
WOW, so many offers. Sure can’t beat the price!!
Are you going to let us know who the winner is? (No sarcasm intended.)
CarBob

Well BGR I’m not a fanboy so I’m not going to go ape shit over it but if you are interested I’ve been modifying and repairing cell phones for 6 years, don’t think it would be to hard of a task for me.
Pick me BG!!!!
You know, you can now buy a replacement back cover from CNN.CN with all the hardware PRE-INSTALLED. So don’t go giving away your iPhone just yet. Just buy a replacement cover and snap it on.
… or you could, of course, just send it to me and I’ll snap one on and take pictures of the process.
I have a back cover with the hardware coming in the mail already.
i’ll take it and fix it! i’ll even send it back to you if i can get it back to its working order!
