You are now free to tether your iPhone
Some clever developers have figured out a way to tether your iPhone to your OS X-equipped computer. Granted, you’ll be limited to the ultra slow EDGE network, possibly violate AT&T’s Terms of Service, not to mention that you’ll be installing a piece of homebrewed software on to your $500-600 device. If you’re still game, read on. Nate True, the brilliant mind that brought the remote desktop to your iPhone, seems to have done it a again. Through a series of steps that are outlined clearly on his site, he’s made it possible for iPhone users to utilize their phone’s internet connection by way of the wired cable connection. It’s not for the faint of heart, as the process demands a certain level of technical proficiency, but if you’re not scared off by a wee bit of internal fiddling, it’s certainly worth a shot. That being said, don’t say we didn’t warn ya’, so don’t come running our way if your slick phone turns into a slick brick.
I have the technical knowledge to but PERSONALLY would not chance bricking the iPhone to install any of these “homebrew” apps. How about anyone else here on BGR?!?

anyways, I think all these hacks are great, I wouldnt try them out if I had one but its something to watch and see how apple reacts.
Why is it that every cool app and/or Hack that I hear about for the iPhone comes with some level of risk of bricking the phone?
Not only do you have to worry about the possibility of the software/hack messing up your iPhone, but you also have to take your chance with At&t.
At&t has the right to completely ban your account from their network, permanently. In other words, you’ll have a 600 dollar iPod/Wifi web browser.

yah i dont think that will happen as long as they are getting montly payments. who would go with at%t again if they banned their phone.
You fail to see the point.
At&t doesn’t consider you as paying for tethering privilages unless you have a special package.
In other words, they aren’t getting their monthly payment.
If you fail to pay, they will cease your service.
They have plenty of corporate users who pay 70 dollars a month just so they can tether their PDA/Cellphone to their laptop.
no usually if you tether without paying they then charge you for the tethered data – much more expensive. The bricking would come from apple but they have no record of bricking any of their devices that have been hacked. the worst thing they have done is update the firmware to kill the hack.
i dont know what the hype of the iphone is, i tried it my self and i took it back after 3 days and got the blackjack, the theathering for the blackjack is easy just have to make a short cut for a program called internet sharing and bam. and who cares about spelling on these boards, its the internet not a resume or term paper.
