As of now (12:00 AM PDT), you can all get your Microsoft Exchange fix on your Helio Oceans! In addition to the countless email and communication options present on the Helio Ocean already, Exchange will finally grace the device. Look forward to full contact, calendar and email sync with the new software. What should happen is, in your messages list, a "Microsoft Exchange" email box will appear and you would just click on that, and download the software enhancement. That’s it! Currently available as a 60 day beta trial, the full version will go for $9.99/month after this time period. Additionally, get set for Helio File Viewer which works hand in hand with your new Microsoft Exchange mailbox. It will allow the viewing of popular document types like .doc, .ppt, .xls, and .pdf attachments. Finally happy, Just Blaze? More info after the jump.
Helio Ocean’s expansive messaging capabilities just got more versatile with the launch of Mail for Microsoft Exchange. Adding to Ocean’s already comprehensive messaging line-up including a single hub for all text messages, picture messages, Instant Messages and emails from the major portals and ISPs, Helio members can now mix business with pleasure through Mail for Microsoft Exchange. This new application lets users wirelessly synchronize Microsoft® Office Outlook® email, calendar and contacts from their companies’ Microsoft® Exchange Server so they can use Ocean to keep in touch with friends and family, as well as staying on top of business.
“Ocean has already made staying in touch with friends easier than ever with the ultimate messaging dashboard for all email, IM, picture and text messages, something nobody has ever done before,” said Doug Britt, Sr. Director of Content and Messaging Services at Helio. “Now we’re bringing the business user into the fold with the addition of corporate email, calendar and contacts, all from the same great messaging interface. Combined, this solidifies Ocean as an ideal device for keeping in touch with friends, family and business associates.”
Mail for Microsoft Exchange is Helio’s new downloadable client that uses the Microsoft® Exchange ActiveSync® protocol to let users remotely synchronize and access business email, contacts and calendar data from their corporate Exchange Server. Ocean users can wirelessly download Mail for Microsoft Exchange to their device and after a brief set up, send and receive email, create and send calendar appointments and access corporate contact lists. Once Mail for Microsoft Exchange is downloaded, it is also easily accessible through Ocean’s messaging home screen aside the full suite of Ocean’s messaging capabilities.
Helio will also soon launch Helio File Viewer in conjunction with Mail for Microsoft Exchange. When available, Helio File Viewer will allow users to view documents including .doc, .ppt, .xls, and .pdf files.
really makes me inclined to buy a Helio Ocean now that it would work with my corporation’s Exchange…

my fingers would not work well on the keyboard. Not enough space for top keys against the edge of the top section.

I can not seem to find this phone anywhere, who is the carrier selling it???

Evan, Helio is a MVNO, you get the device from Helio. this seems a little pricey - what is the justification for a per-month fee for what is just additional data? It’s not like the data is flowing through Helio servers. Plus, Helio only offers shared minutes on the a la carte plan, so two phones with Exchange support would cost me $150 a month.

This is a very nice device (if it were gsm) I would consider getting it. But the additional charge makes no sense specially if its on top of an alredy expensive (I think) data plan. But hey it is a great phone. Kinda reminds me of the Sony Mylos.

Certainly sounds like an great addition to an already terrific product!

Kudos to Helio for finally getting Exchange support, but I agree with Fred, what is the justification in the per month fee. Helio has great pricing plans and the Ocean is very close to an excellent phone (still missing WIFI capabilities). But this monthly fee seems to be too Verizonish for my tastes.

I agree with you about the monthly fee, but at the same time there is a good chance your corporation pays for your device anyway, and if not $9.99 is not the biggest deal in the world for full Exchange sync. In addition, I might be wrong here, but I think that fee is non existent with the Helio All-In plan. I don’t believe this is a case of Helio being greedy so much, but rather a licensing deal with Microsoft, and ActiveSync.

I’m giving away my Helio Ocean. I used it for less than 30 days to test the service:

BG, even with the all-in plan they will still charge on top of it.

I would expect this will be leveraging the link up between Funambol (producers of a SyncML server) and Helios.
For a while now there’s been an exchange plugin for Funambol, and the company wants to make inroads with US networks.
