AT&T Video Share launches across the country
It’s no secret that AT&T has been testing their Video Share a service in several select markets. Just when and where the service would leave the beta process, however, has been a bit of a mystery…until now. AT&T launched Video Share today in over 160 markets, marking the first time an American carrier has taken a stab at the 3G video conferencing game with a select few handsets. Granted, Video Share is a bit of a compromise, offering users the ability to share clips one at a time in one-way form only…no face-to-face conferencing here, at least not for the time being. That said, if you want to share some live-ish mobile clips, this is pretty much the only game in town. The service will be available for $4.99 including 25 minutes of video share footage, or $9.99 for 60 minutes. Both parties must have compatible phones and service plans.

Well…I called at&t and they are like well it doeasnt work with the blackjack but it only works with the LG CU500V and the SYNC from SAMSUNG and yea it’s useless crap since you need a 3G phone and one of the two listed above so it’s just as crappy as their tech support. Oooooooooo major ponage!!!!

Jeff B. are you also competing to be 1st Comment.
I am curious to see how well this survives specially when compared to that of the PTT technology that they promote. I feel bad that it is almost worthless to own a PTT capable cellphone. Maybe with video share they will be able to open a bit more grown. Although the pricing cost look horrible, they should just make it unlimited and set a fixed price making it possible for any 3g phone (with the optional OS upgrade) to use it.

Sweet… but I don’t think anyone is going to actually go for it in the US… except for some of us of course…

Yes victor I am competing and I don’t think at&t(cingular), sorry, cingular(at&t) will let this grow because they run the company the way the consumer wouldn’t but hey they’re still in business so they have to be doing something right…just not the cutting edge stuff…except 3G, that shit is sweet.

I can’t believe you just compared the success (or lack thereof) of PTT to the success of Video Share. I’d say millions of people around the world have found video calling useful. Where have you been?

Ya know he was probably comparing what might happen in the US to that of PTT. I mean you can’t say it’s going to work (or sell) but it is a step in the right direction for cingular(at&t) and it brings us closer to the future of video calling in every hand or home I mean this is pulling the US cellular market into the future by a big ass step. We’ll just have to see what happens.

If its not in Real-time then what makes this different from recoding myself via camera and sending the clip via MMS? I’ve seen many Euro phones w/ front facing cameras, Is this what they use? This is kind of a let down…

There’s some misinformation here.. Both parties DO NOT need to have 3G devices however both parties WILL need to have a later edition 3G SIM card which at&t has been providing for about a year or so now. The only party that has to have the specific device to share the vid is the person sending the video.
PTT is coming around as well. I have at least 10 or so contacts that I communicate with that have PTT. It’s just not marketed strongly yet.

very cool and just the tip of the iceberg. this is a big part of the future and at&t is getting out early, thankfully.

it is in real time. and there are atleast 6 phone models that will/do support the feature. as far as PTT goes at&t dropped the ball on this feature basically due to lack of manufacturer support on the handset side. It needs to be in EVERY phone, if they dont add vid share to every phone it will die.
